.@GOPLeader & @RodneyDavis say @SpeakerPelosi is preparing to institute full remote voting, a HUGE change for Congress: “Speaker Pelosi is once again attempting to consolidate power in the House of Representatives while rewarding members of her party for their compliance.”
/3 More McCarthy & Davis: “Chairperson Lofgren’s letter would pave the way for an expansion of the current proxy voting scheme into a fully-remote ‘vote by text’ operation that is unproven, unsecure, and unconstitutional.”
/4 Democrats instituted proxy voting on the floor earlier this year in response to the pandemic. Republicans complained it would harm the House but it didn’t seem to have any negative impact
/5 Democrats say that this Lofgren letter doesn’t mean a change in House procedures in imminent, but clearly GOP leaders suspect otherwise.
/6 And with the pandemic growing worse, there will clearly be more debate over the best way the House can conduct the people’s business while protecting lawmakers, staff, and especially reporters (the linchpin of democracy.)
/7 Senior Dem aide: “This is a required step pursuant to a resolution passed by the House and not under consideration by leadership. We appreciate the minority’s theatrics.”

.@SpeakerPelosi says on “This Week” that Trump is rushing a Supreme Court pick so the new justice can be in place for Nov. 10 hearing on Obamacare. “He doesn’t want to crush the [coronavirus], he wants to crush the Affordable Care Act.”
/2 Pelosi rejects using gov’t funding bill to shut down federal agencies & pressure Trump & Rs on SCOTUS pick. “We’re not going to be shutting down government.”

NEWS- From @JakeSherman & me from inside coronavirus relief talks: On UI, Meadows & Mnuchin offered an additional $400 per week until Dec. 15 (their initial offer was an extra $600 per week for a week.) Eviction moratorium: extended through Dec. 15....
/2 On funding for state & local govs: Mnuchin & Meadows offered $ 200 billion (up from “flexibility.” Dems say the GOP only offered $150 billion). Pelosi & Schumer are seeking more than $900 billion. This is a major area of disagreement within talks.
/3 THE DEM CONCESSIONS: Their USPS ask went from $25 billion to $10 billion - subject to a meeting today with the postmaster general that MNUCHIN, MEADOWS, PELOSI and SCHUMER will have. REPUBLICANS are not happy with the concessions Dems made, saying their gives were far bigger
Without an economic message for his rally, Trump's whole address is disjointed. He's gone from "fake news" toc"law & order" to judges to tax cuts. Says Biden isn't aware of what state he's in. Talks about energy production & railing about AOC. Back to a law & order theme
/2 Trump is railing about Seattle and how it will all fall apart. He's mentioned the "Chinese virus" and coronavirus pandemic only in passing.
/3 Trump gets applause for saying "Chinese virus." Trump blames the media for not giving him credit for response to coronavirusTrump: "They don't say but we - I have done a phenomenal job... I saved hundreds of thousands of lives but we get hardly a mention."
With GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter having pleaded guilty to a felony, the Ethics Cmte has released the Office of Congressional Ethics probe into him
/2 OCE found "evidence of campaign-funded expenditures for family travel, flights, utilities, health care, school uniforms & tuition, jewelry, groceries, gas [and other goods/services] between January 2009 and the present, totaling at a minimum $45,514.85."
/3 "While the $45,514.85 includes many large-dollar purchases, it also includes many smalldollar purchases, showing that the Hunter family used the campaign committee account to fund various aspects of their lifestyle – big and small."
