I was originally premed in college & one of the things that has stuck w me over the years was an intricate discussion of what protracted stress does to the human body. Most people don't understand the level of destruction. There are so many ways premature death is manufactured.
This is another reason I have no time for the fools who shamed folks for taking a breath last weekend. If you do not give yourself space for relief and joy, your insides will rip themselves apart. Your body wasn't made for that level of strain.
The people who shame you for resting or experiencing joy might, in fact, understand that you will destroy yourself without those things. They just don't care what happens to you and also want to talk down to you. Keep that in mind when they speak.
The fact that those people tried to shame *me* for tweeting that I was gonna take a breath and watch a little TV last Saturday should tell you everything you need to know. I was seriously characterized as being "back at brunch." You won't win w some people. No point in trying.
Some people also seem to think that their mental state itself is activism. Being upset is not political action. This weekend I am taking some action around some issues I care about. Most of the people giving out emotional homework assignments will not. They will just be emoting.
Seriously, when considering people's advice and directives on here, ask yourself if they give a good god damn what happens to you.

Watching the penultimate episode of Supernatural and I am unforgivably bored.
What? Jack became a magic dustbuster?
Like that is not a development you explain in complete retrospect, like out of nowhere. Wow.

From my latest: "Trump is still armed with every weapon in the world and has continuously stoked and perpetrated violence against marginalized people, it is irresponsible to suggest that the danger has passed." truthout.org/audio/welcome-…
"Wishful thinking was not helpful at the onset of the Trump administration and it is not helpful now. Pretending that the danger is now minimal reflects a total disregard for the fates of marginalized people in this political meantime." truthout.org/audio/welcome-…
The pandemic is killing about 1,000 people per day in the U.S., as case rates continue to soar. Inside immigration detention facilities, the monthly case rate of COVID-19 per 100,000 detainees increased from 1,527 to 6,683 from April 2020 to August 2020. truthout.org/audio/welcome-…

I swear I will shut up about this for the night if we get to $2K.
$1,907. So that's $93 to get me to shut up about something for the night. Some would call that a steal. facebook.com/donate/1623353…
$38 to get me to stop talking about this for the day. facebook.com/donate/1623353…

I foresee housing reclamation being a crucial area of direct action work in the winter and new year. I hope people study up good and hard and build solid skill sets well ahead of attempting such moves. It's gonna be trickier in the age of COVID-19.
People will be negotiating with a lot of unsafe situations. Harm reduction to keep people as safe as possible when there are no good options is going to be part of the picture. The need to make unheated/unkept space habitable quickly will be a concern.
The ability to cordon off areas could be a consideration. Just some thoughts.

It will never cease to amaze me how men have tried to treat the Toobin situation as an example of the unacceptably punitive nature of our society and the oppression of workers, given the horrifyingly real examples of those things we ought to be discussing right now.
Personally, I'm expected to pay attention in meetings. No one would think twice if I got fired from a job for failing to do so. If I was revealed to be doing something sex related, instead of paying attention, that my colleagues wound up having to see, who wouldn't get fired?
But Toobin's an exceptional white man, so we get sanctimony from men, as tho they're speaking up against mass incarceration, or for labor rights, when they're talking about a man who did something gross that would get literally anyone fired.

Hey friends! I am helping @ChiFreeSchool put together some disaster preparedness projects for the winter. CFS needs some funding to fulfill some of the needs we've identified. Who can help us make this program for organizers happen? facebook.com/donate/1623353… Image
Organizers need resources to improvise to meet the needs of their communities in a crisis. I will be working with @ChiFreeSchool to redistribute some important resources and to help people with things like safety planning and other safety-related skills. facebook.com/donate/1623353… Image
This effort is aimed at young organizers, but will help bring important resources and information to other Chicago organizers as well. This project means a lot to me. facebook.com/donate/1623353… Image
