For many of you who lives in other states, the festival season is over today but for the people living in Bihar it’s just the beginning.

as a kid who has grown up in Bihar, I will tell you the significance of this Puja.

In the 90s, the municipality Patna used to work only during the Chhath Puja. It was really tough to find even a single trash on the street.

For throughout the year we have hardly seen the cleanness like we used to see during the Chhath Puja.

It was also a very happy time because the crime rate used to come down to 0. For a kid from 90’s Bihar, when going out after 6 PM or 7 PM was a luxury as well as danger, it was the only time throughout the year when parents were not scared to send you out after 8 PM also.

This must be the only time when whole state does not eat non-veg for these 3-4 days of festival. For us who used to see 7 to 8 hours of load shedding, this was the only time in 90s when we used to get 24 hour electricity.

For us watching Bihar on news channel except kidnapping and robbery was exceptional. This was the only time in that jungle raj when we used to see the religious side of the state on the national news.

The ghats of Ganga used to illuminate so much with lights of all the colours which we hardly see during any other months of the year. The streets of the state used to be so clean that you can walk with your barefoot and still you won’t find any dust.

It’s one of the toughest festival. Fasting for three days with hardly any food or water and still you will see people with full of energy. That’s the power of Chhath Puja. I wish you all a very happy Chhath Puja in advance.
