A dear brother asks:

‘What evidence is there that the Quran is from God?’

I shall answer this question inshallah from the Quran’s evidence to this in three angles:

(1) Polytheistic
(2) Judaeo-Christian
(3) Contemporary
Of course, I am doing this knowing that carbon dating, literary, inscription, mass transmission and such type of evidence has proven the Quranic text’s early 7th century origins. More elaboration later.

Anyway, let us begin.
(1) The polytheists of Mecca were Jewish influenced.
Jewish influence was present in their religious framework of knowledge, as explained here:
As such, when asking for a miracle-sign.

They announced:

“Never will we believe until we are given like that which was given to the messengers of Allah." (6:124)

The ‘messengers of Allah’ being the polytheists’ recognition of previous Jewish messengers, Image
And they ask from Muhammad a miracle similar to what Allah rewarded previous prophets - so they believe in him.

Hence, all the Quranic stories - depicted as ‘ayat’, as in 2:252 - are deliberately presented for the chief purpose of proving Muhammad’s prophethood.
Proving a continuity between Muhammad & previous messengers.

I clarify more of this here:
For the purpose of this thread, I will demonstrate how the continuity between Musa & Muhammad serves to prove Muhammad’s prophethood.

And the miracles utilized to prove such connection.
#1 Allah making this connection Himself, between Musa & Muhammad:

“Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.” (73:15) Image
#2 Accordingly, Musa lived a long time among the kafir people (of Pharaoh). (26:18) Image
Similarly, Muhammad lived a lifetime among his own kafir people. (10:16)

They know his character very well to know that it is not a trait of him to lie or destroy his people’s ways.

But I digress. Image
#3 Musa had his brother Harun as his vizier and one he shared his spiritual mission with.

The Prophet compared Ali to himself in the same status Harun was to Musa (with regards to spiritual mission):
#4 Most importantly, Pharaoh asked Musa for an aya (sign-miracle). Image
He was granted the aya - which consisted of a staff that turned to a ‘serpent’. Image
The elite of Pharaoh’s people claimed that Musa had bewitched the eyes of the people.

And present a “great magic”.

Sounds familiar? Image
The Mushrikeen of the Prophet’s people, asked him for an ayah (as I explain above).

The Quran was presented to them.

Something seemed abnormal about it, such as even in their private conversations they tried to convince their compatriots that
The Prophet is a mere human being with no supernatural capabilities.

And they dismissed the Quran as a work of ‘magic’. (21:3)
As the Quran was recited to the elite of Mecca (similar to Musa’s miracles with elites of Pharaoh’s people).

They were trying to comprehend what they were looking at exactly.

Because it’s not making any sense.
The Quran captures this captivating and powerful moment of al-Walid ibn al-Mughira trying to make sense of the supernatural-like aura or the Quran:

Al-Walid ‘gave thought and deliberated’.

As evident in Tabari’s tafsir of 74:18, al-Walid ‘thought and deliberated’.

Meaning ImageImage
Meaning he thought about the Ayat of Muhammad.

He realized “it is not mere poetry, has a good taste, it rises above all else and nothing rises above it, and [he] does not doubt it is a work of magic”. ImageImage
He then converted to Islam

However, as his mushrikeen kin whom he held him highly, reproached him for this.
And they ridiculed the ayat presented by the Quran, when they looked at them, as ‘mere magic’. Image
So he considered again what he was looking at (ثم نظر), from the ayat of the Quran.

And then he frowned and scolded (seeing the Quran as detrimental to the status based society & order of Quraysh).

So he turned back from the true faith and was arrogant. ImageImage
And pronounced:

‘This is not but magic initiated. This is not but the words of a human being.’ Image
𝑩𝑨𝑪𝑲 𝑻𝑶 𝑷𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑶𝑯’𝑺 𝑷𝑬𝑶𝑷𝑳𝑬

Going back to Pharaoh’s time, the elite of Pharaoh’s people after seeing Musa’s serpent miracle.

They dismissed Musa and his brother as individuals who want to expel the people of Egypt from their land.
