Alright y'all I think I'm going to enter "focus mode". Statement of intent. Code name: #helvetium
A thread.
Going to back up my follows (and youtube subs) in a list and reduce to essential for my current mission: to grow a vision of "Helvetium" - or
"What would it look like if Civium metabolized Switzerland?"
Why Helvetium? The Helvetii were among the last indigenous tribes living in Switzerland before the Roman empire struck (look how badass).
I'm #hioloco (high openness low conscientiousness) so take all of this with a grain of salt. I'm aiming for emergent consistency rather than formal consistency.
Anyway, here's the plan:
Phase 1. Establish a sound bioregional frame for the Helvetium. What area, what regions, what ecological flows and functions need to be taken into account?
To prepare for this I'll read the relevant books by @cognitivepolicy (The Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth) and @DrDCWahl (Designing Regenerative Cultures).
Phase 2. Create a detailed vision for how the bioregion could transform if the "new Helvetii tribes" emerged, according to civium and bioregional principles.
My intent is to move from patterns to details. To the degree that it's meaningful I'll develop tools to generate and/or visualize the landscape transformation in detail.
Relevant here will be @jgreenhall's civium series, @jim_rutt's #protob vision, @mbauwens's encyclopedia of knowledge gathered around P2P seed forms and commons (I'll read his book "Peer to Peer: The Commons Manifesto", too). Knowledge about ecovillages and permaculture.
Phase 3. Work to create more coherence and self awareness in the current network in Switzerland (permaculture groups, GEN etc.). Foster dialogos. Allow the dialogos to feed back on the vision.
Phase 4. Find out what's the most elegant practical move, the adjacent possible (Establishing an ecovillage? A foundation? A political initiative?). Hopefully the next step will emerge from the vision-vs-current-situation dialectic.
A few words on the HOW: I want to
* go through the whole process as transparently as possible, document and share what I learn
* give as much as possible back to the global commons to facilitate similar processes elsewhere
* network and collaborate with relevant people
Currently, realistically speaking, I have about 10 hours per week that I can dedicate to this. If you like this project you can increase that time helping me buy unpaid leave from my day job 😀.
Dear diary! I'm happy and excited today, yesterday I managed to do what I've been wanting to do for a long time, i.e. to build a curated collection of #gameb quotes.
In a way this has been my intuition all along: if you build good sensemaking tools, this will also increase your expressive capacity, thus your influence. Which draws interest in the sensemaking tool, which in turn increases everyone's sensemaking capacity.
Never occurred to me that someone could read a book about the local public school system.
