Anti-maskers aren’t citizens exercising their liberty. They’re selfish, ignorant citizens who continue to betray the public good. These aren’t patriots fighting against oppression; these are people who have broken the social contract.
#COVID19 #RealPatriots
They are responsible for an untold number of deaths. They are responsible for the suffering of the sick. And they’re responsible for the broken hearts.
We can no longer keep treating them as if they’re simply misguided. They are literally a national security threat.
We’ve heard it over and over from the scientists: if we all follow the guidelines —like wearing masks in public— within a month, we can slow the spread by such a degree that life can begin to be normal again.
Lives can be saved and the heartbreak of loved ones can be prevented. People can begin to adjust to a post-Covid world, which will begin to mend the economy. Our at-risk citizens will no longer have to live in fear, nor will their loved ones.
So, as we see the daily new cases steadily reaching 200,000, remember it didn’t have to be this way. We have to live with the sad truth that because of the selfish, unpatriotic acts of some, the rest of us must continue to endure this latest Covid surge.
Yes, Trump and his administration have not only been incompetent, but have even actively undermined the efforts made by states trying to compensate for national leadership that is absent. They promote misinformation and lie. They even instigate insurgencies in “blue” states.
However, we should never forget how some of us behaved when our country needed us the most. If you think wearing a mask is an attack on your freedom, then you have a child’s understanding of freedom.
Freedom comes with responsibility, like wearing a mask in public when our best and brightest scientists implore us to. And by acting recklessly by not wearing a mask, you’re in a position to not only take away someone else’s freedom but their very life.
I’ve never been so ashamed and embarrassed for my country while at the same time being so proud of those who rose to the occasion: the healthcare workers, first responders, essential workers, and the Americans willing to wear a mask to do their part in fighting this virus.

Remember, things are going to be crazy tomorrow (and likely crazy for some time), but the election isn’t over until *all* the votes have been counted.
We need to strongly and consistently push back against any illegitimate declarations of victory.
Trump told insiders that he’s planning to declare victory if he’s ahead tomorrow night. With millions of ballots needing to be counted in several key states, he would be undermining the electoral process.
Whether he loses by a low margin in some swing states or is absolutely demolished, he’s not going to concede.
This will be the first time in American history that a president hasn’t conceded an election, disregarding the a bedrock of our system: the peaceful transfer of power.
