Community highlight: @mishaoraaali (they/them) is a queer desi-Filipino cognitive scientist whose research lies at the intersection of psycholinguistics, developmental psych, and semantics. They also like making art and building things for experiments!
Community highlight: @BabakHemmatian is a queer Iranian PhD candidate, studying cognitive and computer sciences. Using behavioral experiments and machine learning, he studies how social narratives evolve on social media, and how changes relate to attitude shifts over time.
Community highlight: @psychNerdJae is a queer social psychologist researching how people build mental models of social networks. To do this, Jae uses computational modeling techniques like network analysis, drift diffusion, reinforcement learning, and representational similarity.
Polly Jacobson, one of our faculty, notes that linguistics has been a pioneer in recognizing/supporting the LGBTQ+ community in STEM, with an Out In Linguistics group founded in 1991(!), which thrived for decades and has since given rise to other groups: linguisticsociety.org/content/outil-…
