My name is Miqdaad Versi.

This tweet RTed by Conservative MP Michael Fabricant, is yet another demonstration of his awful behaviour & ignorance

ICYMI: I was on TV & have tweeted extensively about @LabourMuslims report on Labour Islamophobia
But that doesn't stop me highlighting the (bigger) structural problem of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party.

I've taken a screenshot in case he deletes his RT without apology again
This is a Conservative MP RTing "Jill" who thinks Muslims are "a backward cult", are "medieval in mind and actions", follow a religion which "causes MH problems" (mental health), whilst calling to perhaps "shut down Muslims and mosques"
Here Fabricant is RTing a person who thinks Tommy Robinson is not racist, who thinks the far-right does not exist and who sees Islam as a threat.

Yesterday, Conservative MP Mike Fabricant
1. Attacked me for highlighting Islamophobia in his Party due to it harming "Anglo-Muslim relations"
2. Deflected by telling me to focus on antisemitism
3. RTed someone who says Muslims are a "backward cult" & "medieval in mind & actions" ImageImageImageImage
4. RTed someone who thinks Tommy Robinson is not a racist, thinks there are no far-right extremists who need to be countered & that Islam is a threat

This was all just yesterday, where he said my gathering of evidence demonstrated "spite" & "unpleasantness" ImageImageImageImage
He has a history.

For example, he previously shared a picture of Sadiq Khan as a pig i.e. it is him being a Muslim that is somehow relevant?

FYI: Islamophobes similarly use the pig as a means of attacking Muslims e.g. bacon at mosques. Image

When @Conservatives see an "Anglo-Muslim" trope from an MP, who also asks a Muslim to ignore Islamophobia & focus on Labour antisemitism, do they show zero tolerance?

No, they *praise* him “He is raising an important point"

Who will hold them to account?
theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
It should be truly shocking to see such a callous response from the Party but it's just their modus operandi.

They say: "The Conservative party does not tolerate prejudice and discrimination.”

But their actions show the opposite.
The relative silence from most sections of the media commentariat, is deeply hurtful & shows how little it matters in the public space, when the victim of racism is a Muslim.

Who will hold the @Conservatives to account for this latest example of their denial, dismissal & deceit?

As part of Conservative MP Michael Fabricant's attack on me for highlighting Islamophobia in the Conservative Party, he chose to imply English & Muslim are separate categories by saying I am harming "Anglo-Muslim relations".

This is totally unacceptable.
Whilst he has deleted now (without acknowledgement or apology), his updated tweet is not much better.

Rather than responding to my concerns, he has said that I - as a spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain- should focus on Labour anti-semitism

This is all because I dared to raise the issue of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party.

Mr Fabricant.

I have only been sharing evidence. Respond to my evidence if you disagree.

It is not a prerequisite that the Party has to have been investigated by the EHRC.

Given my role, I highlight issues related to Muslims, inc. the dangerous Islamophobia in your Party
I am neither being spiteful nor unpleasant. I am merely sharing facts.

They may be uncomfortable facts but they are facts nonetheless.

It is unsurprising that you seem to be in denial of the issue of Islamophobia, given its scale in your Party
Bringing forward evidence is key to tackling any form of racism.

And it is wrong to not bring up the evidence because it might harm "Anglo-Muslim relations" (see next tweet)

It is unacceptable for a Conservative MP to deny the well established evidence demonstrating the depth & breadth of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party

There are literally 100s of examples, and the Party has taken an approach of denial, dismissal & deceit on the issue

Thread
The hundreds of allegations are set out by @MuslimCouncil in our thorough EHRC submission (mcb.org.uk/wp-content/upl…)

Many reported this e.g.
theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
The submission brings detailed evidence of:
1. Islamophobia amongst Conservative MPs
2. Atmosphere of hostility against Muslim Conservative members
3. Scale of Islamophobia across all levels of the Party
4. Multiple failures of the complaints process
5. Denial of Islamophobia Image

What's disappointing Peter *still* seems to not know why this is so wrong

The question implies that due to Tarek's Muslimness, Peter thinks there is chance he might be okay with a gruesome beheading & he must disassociate himself to *prove* that's not true

This is not okay
Given the gruesome murder is so horrific, it is easy to think: "who wouldn't want to speak out against it"

But most people - especially those in positions of authority & influence - know how wrong it is to assume collective responsibility.
Why should an ordinary Muslim here, *have* to say he disagrees with a disgusting murder?

Do all white people have to say they disagree about all disgusting white murders? Or terrorist acts? Or state overreach? Or white supremacy? Or...
