In case you missed it, the White House squashed a deal to offer mental health services to migrant families separated at the border.

Sources say one man is to blame: senior adviser Stephen Miller.…
Let’s rewind to October 2019: After nine months of negotiations, an $8 million settlement had been "agreed to in principle" by both the Justice Department and lawyers representing the migrant families.

But in the 11th hour, the White House swooped in to kill the deal.
A month ago, we reported that the parents of 545 migrant children could not be located as a result of Trump’s zero-tolerance family separation policy. That number is now 666.

Let that sink in: 666 kids without parents — and without mental health services.
Now, more than a year after the initial deal was killed, the Trump admin has only contacted about 500 out of 5,000 children to begin counseling.

It’s worth noting a federal judge had ordered this counseling to begin in March 2020.
For many, the damage is already done. NBC’s @jacobsoboroff, who broke the story, says a father and son at the border requested he relay a message to the president:

“If you see Trump, ask him why he traumatized us psychologically.”

A Wisconsin health official said they’re “short of staff at all times.” In North Dakota, they’re so hard-hit that nurses with asymptomatic COVID cases are being told to report to work.

"I myself have held the hand of dying patients who are crying out for their family that they can’t see. I've taken care of coworkers ... they got sick because of the hospital, or their government hasn’t protected them."

Leading the charge is none other than the @bts_bighit ARMY — who have already raised over $40,000 for the typhoon victims.

DAY 1: Fear & Loathing on the COVID Campaign Trail

@jheil is wheels down in Texas giving you a good gonzo roundup of the state of the presidential race.
@jheil San Antonio: We’re looking at 9M+ votes already cast in this no-shot-turned-long-shot battleground state.

Is it possible Biden could pull out the shock of the century, @jheil?
A lightning round of @jheil questions with @juliancastro:
• Odds Biden pulls it off? 50/50.
• Odds Hegar upsets Sen. Cornyn? Less than that.
• How’s that possible? Texans have “woken up.”
• What are you watching? Harris County.

As we’re sure you’re aware (you’re on Twitter, after all), we’re 5 days from Nov. 3 — also known as Election Day — also also known as your deadline to vote.

There are tons of ways to make sure your vote is counted. Let’s run through ‘em right here, just in case:
Have an absentee ballot in your possession right now? Before you send that sucker in, make sure you:
✅ Used a black pen

If you’re an early bird who’s already mailed your ballot in, you can track the status of your vote here:
