I think you miss MENTORSHIP, ma'am.
I'm a 51+ year old architect.
I have mentors in my field, architecture.
I have business mentors.
I have spiritual mentors.
I have people I consult before taking major decisions.

I'm not sure how many youths of today have mentors...
Before I got married, I asked my then fiancée, "If I ever get angry with you, if I lose it & you feel you can't reach me again, who do you think you can call & can talk to me, no matter how mad I get, I'd listen to him/her? Who do you think I respect & listen to, no matter what?"
She immediately mentioned a name.
And whenever we have any misunderstanding, she would call him, "My husband has gone mad again ooo!" ,😁
He'd call me & reset my head.

My point is, we have people we RESPECT, people we LISTEN to, people who GUIDE us through life...
As youths, we looked up to people like Wole Soyinka, Tai Solarin, Aminu Kano, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, etc.
We didn't have the internet, so we read books.
We didn't have PlayStation.
We didn't have Nintendo Wii.
We didn't have DStv.
We didn't have smartphones...
Who do the youths of today look up to?
Who are their mentors?
Mostly "celebrities" & "influencers" who teach them wrong VALUES & SUBSTANCE.

The average Nigerian youth doesn't know Jelani Aliyu or Chinua Achebe.
But he/she knows Kim & Cardi.

Values are not the same...
As parents, we try our best.
We try to instill the discipline our parents instilled in us in our children.
But the pull from the internet, celebrities, influencers & peer pressure is too much for the average youth.
His/her head is turned by the ephemeral & the mundane.
Youths today are more interested in winning money from Reality TV than earning it through hard work.
I once heard a young graduate say he's looking for work "where they don't do much, but they pay very well"!

I honestly don't know how the right values can be brought back...

She came to town to collect her NYSC call up letter.
I drove her to the University.
She ran into a friend who told her some stories that had been flying around the campus about her.
She was angry!
Who started these stories? They're lies!
Her friend told her who: Janet.
We got to the office where she was to pick up the call up letter.
As she was signing for it, her friend rushed in: "Edith, I just saw Janet outside! The girl who started those stories about you!"
Edith quickly exits the office to go confront her.
I watched the scene, amused...
Edith was 23.
I was 45.
I called out, "EDITH!"
She turned.
I said, "DON'T!"
I didn't say more than that.
She stared at me for a while.

Her friends were egging her on.
She was torn between obeying me or giving in to the raging anger in her.
Her friends were not helping matters...

EMOTIONS.

2 stories in the Bible stand out for me.
Moses just died, after leading the Israelites for 40 years.
He was a great man.
He brought the Israelites out of Egypt, after unleashing plagues on the Country.
He parted the Red Sea.
He brought water from the Rock...
He saw God's back.
He spent so much time with God on the mountain, when he came back his face was shining.
He died in God's presence.
Nobody saw his corpse.
He just walked off & died.
God personally buried him.
He was a great man, whatever parameters used to measure greatness...
After his death, God spoke to Joshua:
"Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you & all these people, unto the land which I am giving them."
Joshua 1:2

In other words, "Moses is dead: WE MOVE!"

It revealed to me, a God that is lacking in EMOTIONS.

A 28 year old lady gets marries a 32 year old man.
She has a group of 4 friends, 2 are married, 2 are single.
The single friends are side chicks to married men.

The man tells his wife he's very uncomfortable with her friendship with such women.
It's immoral, he says...
The wife would have nothing of it.
"Stop judging my friends! You're not God! They're not under any obligation to live up to your morality standard!"

"You don't get it, do you?
It's not about THEM: it's about YOU. Associating with side chicks tells a lot about YOU!"
Hubby says...
Wifey couldn't be bothered.
"Just leave my friends alone: how they live their lives is not your business!"

Ok.

Husband let it go.
He never brings it up again.

About a year later, someone tells wifey she saw her husband having lunch with a young lady in a restaurant...

I believe Buhari is the President of Nigeria.
You say, no: it's Peter Obi.

Now, would it make any sense if I get angry & start insulting & cursing you because you're believing a lie?

You don't get angry at those who don't believe what you believe if indeed it's the truth...
If you are sure what you believe is the TRUTH, why are you triggered by those who don't believe it?
I believe Jesus is the Son of God.
I believe there's no salvation without Him.
There are billions who don't believe it.

That's their problem, not mine, honestly...
If I get upset & angry because they don't believe what I believe, there's something fundamentally wrong.
That's why those who get triggered when I insist nobody was killed at the Lekki Toll Gate incident amuse me.
If indeed you believe people were killed, why are you angry at me?

Why/how did David defeat Goliath?

Because he SAID so.
It was a battle of words.

Goliath SPOKE:
"Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?"
And he cursed David in the name of his gods.
1 Samuel 17:43.

He spoke WORDS.
He sent forth CURSES.
He was irritated by the teenager.
Goliath spoke further:
"Come, I will give your flesh to the vultures & to the beasts of the field.!"
1 Samuel 17:44.

David responded with WORDS also:
"You come to me with a sword, a spear & a shield: but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts...
...the God of the armies of Israel, whom whom you have defied.
Today, the Lord will deliver you into my hand & I will kill you, take off your head & give the carcases of the Philistines to the vultures & the wild beasts of the earth...
