Jack Greenwell - Durham miner and the longest-serving manager in the history of @FCBarcelona.

Spotted by legendary FC Barcelona President Joan Gamper, Greenwell signed for the club and move to Catalonia in 1912. He played for Barca 88 times, winning two league titles. (3/7)
After retiring as a player, Greenwell was appointed Barca manager. He won 5 league titles, the Copa Del Rey twice & remains the longest serving manager in the club’s history. In 1996, Bobby Robson, of Langley Park Colliery, became the 2nd Durham miner to manage Barca (4/7)
While in Spain, Greenwell also managed @valenciacf_en, @RCDEspanyol, @RCD_Mallorca and @RealSporting, winning a further two league championships and a Copa Del Rey

After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Greenwell moved to South America. (5/7)
He coach @Universitario to the Peruvian championship.

He was appointed manager of the @SeleccionPeru - leading them the 1939 Copa America - beating Uruguay 2-1 in the final. (6/7)
Greenwell moved to Colombia to manage @SantaFe. Following a training session in Bogota he had a heart attack and died aged 58 #OnThisDay in 1942. (7/7)

The #DurhamMiners Association was founded at a meeting in the Market Tavern #OnThisDay in 1869.

Within six years, the first miners hall was opened in the city's North Road.

By 1913, the union’s membership had grown to more than 150,000, and the DMA needed a new home. (1/3)
Work was completed on 'The New Hall and Offices of the Durham Miners' Association' in October 1915. It became known as 'Redhills'.

The mission begun at the Market Tavern continued at Redhills. (2/4)
