@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 1. I’m no expert but here are some rambling thoughts: make data relevant and interesting for them. Data should be so much more than traditional insights into CCG abacus-driven KPIs. You lose interest, you lose learning, you lose literacy.
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 2. Make it about outcomes and not just activity. The focus has to be on patient and carers, so question anything frivolous (albeit well-intended)that’s come over the wall from NHS-Alphabet. #dataMHgeddon
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 3. make it about creating a culture of continuous improvement, enabled through real-time learning using data
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 4. make strong relationships with EPR business analysts and optimise workflows/develop workarounds. No EPR is perfect, most can be tweaked- don’t be afraid to try new approaches.
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 5. Fall in love with your business intelligence team. Understand the true meaning of ‘click and collect’ and how you can nuance and optimise data flow
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 6. don’t be daunted by jargon: ‘machine learning’, ‘parallel processing’ ‘R’ - stick to the basics to begin with: what do you want to see?
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 7. Visualise it; think how the data can connect through engaging infographics that bring the story, function and information together
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 8. create a professional community of interest. Learn how to ask the right questions, learn about data-driven problem solving
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 9. Data-driven enterprise, not department. Think consistency of distributed practices
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 10. Bake data into important decision making at an individual, Trust and system level. Get it into every agenda.
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 11.We still use Excel a LOT. Work more with, not against. Lots of features might be unknown, I find this useful: bit.ly/2UUlp0l
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 14. Drive adoption from the top. Clinical leadership drives clinician adoption. Get your CNO, CMO and AHP/Psychology on-side. Make using data essential as an extension of good clinical practice.
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 15. The HAAM tool is quite useful to evaluate progress to becoming data-driven
@ellaworsdale @AyeshaRahimCCIO @Asifmbachlani @DrG_NHS @Psycle_Doc @marcus_baw @colinoscopy62 @PhilHornerHoBI 16. Register @ukfci, on DH forums ( discourse.digital health.net) on Twitter and following people who share similar interests. A lot of the following I find personally inspirational; @NHSDAalumni, @tom_nhs, @InsideHealthCIO, @mikecavaye @tobyavery @DHCCIO
