BREAKING: Gove’s Cabinet office is running an ‘Orwellian’ unit to ‘blacklist’ journalists & block sensitive FOI requests.

What are they hiding? Today @openDemocracy announces a legal bid w/ @LeighDay_Law to challenge govt secrecy.

@LeighDay_Law The secretive 'Clearing House' collates lists of journalists that are shared across Whitehall.

Departments have had to show drafts of FOI responses to the Clearing House – effectively centralising control within Gove’s office over what information is released to the public
Journalists & orgs profiled by this unit include @guardiannews @thetimes, @bbcnews @@privacyint @BigBrotherWatch – and our very own @JennaCorderoy

@DavidDavisMP says it’s ‘certainly against the spirit of the FOI Act - and probably the letter too’. So do @NUJofficial & @CampaignFoI

Our new report ‘Art of Darkness’ reveals the disastrous consequences for press freedom – and the worst govt offenders

@DavidDavisMP @NUJofficial @CampaignFoI Throughout COVID-19, our journalism has exposed how Johnson’s govt has run roughshod over our rights and transparency protections

BREAKING: Under pressure, UK govt has released its massive NHS COVID-19 datastore contracts with Amazon, Microsoft, Faculty, Palantir, Google – hours before @opendemocracy & @foxglovelegal were due to sue.

Here’s the full story – and all the documents:

opendemocracy.net/en/under-press…
@Foxglovelegal The contracts show that the companies involved, including Faculty and Palantir, were granted the IP rights to the contract (including the creation of databases), and were allowed to train their models and profit off unprecedented access to NHS data.
Govt lawyers admit this, but claim that the contract with controversial Cummings-linked AI firm, Faculty, was changed after @foxglovelegal’s original FOI to address this issue. They have not disclosed the further contract - we’re seeking it immediately.
