K9 HERO: Meet Kuno, a military dog who charged into gunfire to help save fellow soldiers during a raid in Afghanistan last year.
Kuno was shot while tackling a sniper. Army veterinarians based in Fort Douglas helped save his life. One of his back feet had to be amputated, and he became the first U.K. military working dog to be fitted with custom prosthetic limbs.
On Wednesday, he and his handler accepted the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals Dickin Medal, which is the highest award an animal can receive while serving in military conflict, equivalent to the U.S. K-9 Medal of Courage.
