Local Housing Allowance (temporarily put back up to 30th percentile during pandemic) will be frozen in cash terms from April 2021 - meaning it will fall back below 30th percentile over time #SR20
Budget red book seems to confirm that plus end of £20 a week increase in universal credit introduced at the same time
OBR report makes clear that 'maintain in cash terms thereafter' means freeze
So anyone on LHA will see rising shortfalls against their rent over next five years
The shortfalls will have to be met from their other benefits - with universal credit being cut by £1,000 a year from next April
That table above also confirms the end of the minimum income floor for self-employed too - so from April back to having their UC assessed on what they should be earning, not what they actually do
The one chink I can see is that technically the decision to freeze LHA again is only for next year - but not much of one as govt's default assumption is that it continues
The bit about the minimum income floor above should obviously have said restarting it
As some pointing out, still a chance of a u-turn on LHA and UC before April if govt put under enough pressure - any other footballers looking for a side gig?
