Coats for the fall/winter season.

Lots of options to choose from.

Here's a quick rundown of what to consider...
1 - Top Coat

This a great versatile option that can be easily dressed up (e.g. worn over a suit) or worn casually.
You can also incorporate different patterns and colors: (e.g. camel, bold check, houndstooth etc.).

You can even play around with different styles (double vs single breast - notch lapel vs peak lapel etc.).

This is why I prefer top coats - tons of variety.
2 - Pea Coat

This is another classic option that gives you a lot of versatility in terms of how it can be styled.
One thing I like about pea coats is that you can dial in the fit based on LENGTH.

So if you're a shorter guy you can grab an option that hits you just past the waist vs something like a bridge coat that extends past the knees.
3 - Duffel Coat

You don't see these often but duffel coats have been around since the mid to late 19th century.

These usually come with a hood and have the characteristic toggle fastening.

Good option if you want something different.
4 - Parka

Can't forget about the parka.

Parkas are great if you need to deal with some serious winter weather. They are lightweight but will keep you plenty warm.

Bonus points if you go with the classic fish tail parka - popularized by the Koren War in the 1950s.
5 - Car Coat

And then there is the Car Coat.

It looks like a top coat but the difference being it doesn't have the broad lapels and buttons up all the way to the neck.

These are slightly less dressed looking but you can still pair them over a suit jacket.
Most guys need a good winter coat and you really can't go wrong with one of the above options.

Some Simple Style tips for men over 50...

1 - Don't try to keep it real

The street style looks with the skinny jeans, hoodies, printed/graphic tees and ball caps etc. should be avoided.

Popular culture is all about youth these days but you're a mature man and you shouldn't be afraid to embrace that. Image
2 – Be careful with faded denim

Can you wear faded denim? Yes...but it has to be subtle/understated. Anything overly distressed or stylized should be avoided.

Best move is to stick to plain denim. Image

Let's talk about denim jeans.

Specifically, how many pairs you need and in which washes.

But before we get into that let's cover fit.

There is a healthy range that is considered acceptable:
I recommend most guys go for either a straight or slim fit with a tapered leg opening.

The tapered leg opening makes a BIG difference.

Gives your legs shape and dimension.
Even on bigger guys, a slimmer fitting jean with a tapered leg is more flattering:

Bald guy style advice...because I have readers who keep asking.

1) If you're going bald...just shave your head. Embrace the look. You don't have to take a razor to it either, clipping/buzzing it short is fine.

Statham did just fine embracing the look...
Same with someone like Andre Agassiz...btw that hair you see on the left is mostly a weave (funny story from his biography).
Bruce Willis is yet another good example...I think you get the idea.

If you're losing it, embrace it.

Layering will not only allow you to regulate your body temperature but it will also help you add some visual interest to your outfits by incorporating different colors and textures.
2) Wear Warm Colors

Warm, rich, saturated colors look awesome for the fall/winter season - especially if you have a higher contrast with warm undertone.

Fall/winter season is sweater season.

And there are a TON of different options out there.

Even with something simple like a crewneck sweater, you'd be surprised at the variety.

Here are just a few to consider:
Your standard fine knit merino wool sweater.

What I like about these guys is that they are easy to wear tucked OR untucked.

Merino wool also has natural anti-odor and temperature regulating properties.

A piece like this can be worn year round. Dressed up or casually. Image
You also have your raglan sleeve style crewnecks. This is where the sleeve extends in one piece fully to the collar.

These have a sportier look to them and are best worn casually with denim jeans and boots or sneakers.
