You might remember the Iranians shot down our highest tech Navy drone with a 60's era SAM and then shot down a passenger plane making the idea of World War Three very awkward and asymmetrical. 
This is a nuke carrier with nukes on board. More of a floating runway for airstrikes and intel. An extraordinary work of military force projection that has zero impact on local enemies. I was on patrol once when they used a B1 bomber at low altitude to scare the flip floppers.
Problem is a long range nuclear bomber on the deck doesn't really scare jihadis, all these weapons were made to crush Russia and China. Yes we have used B52s as close air support but honestly Iran is not intimidated by traditional military force. Just ask Israel and Hamas.
