The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, and that energy can only be transformed into a different form. Everything in this Universe is energy and that includes thoughts, and emotions.
Emotions have their own vibratory signatures. Positive emotions feel good. Negative emotions feel bad. 
What people refer to as evil is represented by energies of a very low vibration. Some people who do not understand physics and vibration say that the only way to eradicate evil is by forcefully removing it through attack.
They often cite "Holy Books" and God's anger (see where anger is on vibrational scale) and wrath (extreme anger) as a legit way to deal with evil. That kind of thinking fails at physics. You get an F by thinking like that.
Fighting negative energy with negative energy, no matter if righteous or not WILL REINFORCE the negative energy. Question is: "What kind of beings would love to reinforce the negative energies?" The answer is: The Fallen Beings. That should give you some clues...
Again, the first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be destroyed but can be transmuted. So how do we deal with negative energy? We treat it with energy of much higher vibration. That energy is LOVE.
This is essentially what Jesus taught. He knew well that the only way to deal with evil is with love. He turned the other cheek. Many at that time saw this as a failure on his part. Yet, he was triumphant in the end.
