Today, the United States Supreme Court denied a motion to hear the case of Spell v. Edwards, which sought to overturn the our mitigation measures. bit.ly/33mjYML #lagov
Throughout the course of this pandemic, I have let science and data inform the many difficult decisions I have made regarding gathering sizes and other mitigation measures to slow the spread of COVID. I have taken no such decisions lightly. #lagov
The reasonable, legal mitigation measures have been necessary to protect the people of Louisiana from unchecked spread of the coronavirus, which would limit hospitals’ ability to deliver care. #lagov
I am thankful that the United States Supreme Court denied this effort to overturn these mitigation efforts. For months I have spoken and prayed with leaders of many faiths as we have navigated this pandemic together. #lagov
I know how difficult this time has been for them and I am deeply appreciative of their commitment to practice their faiths even under trying circumstances and with the health of their congregations in mind. #lagov
As Pope Francis wrote of COVID this week: ‘Looking to the common good is much more than the sum of what is good for individuals. It means having a regard for all citizens and seeking to respond effectively to the needs of the least fortunate.’ nyti.ms/33pgFVm #lagov
My own faith teaches me that our actions have an impact on others, that we truly are in this together, in 1 Corinthians 12: “There are many parts, yet one body” and “If [one] part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy.” #lagov
I have faith that the people of Louisiana will continue to care for one another by slowing the spread of this terrible illness. #lagov

Today I released details of my proclamation moving Louisiana’s response to COVID-19 to Phase 3. #lagov bit.ly/2FuAKQK
We have seen some improvement in decreased COVID-like illness, new COVID cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks, as our strong mitigation measures are working. #lagov
That said, I want the people of Louisiana to know that moving into Phase 3 does not mean that COVID is no longer a problem for us because in fact it is. #lagov

Today, I sent a letter to Louisiana’s congressional delegation asking them to consider funding the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund in the current proposal for COVID-19 relief legislation as unemployment payments expire. #lagov #lalege
I have serious concerns about the solvency of the Trust Fund and the need for federal assistance to make sure Louisiana can continue to pay out unemployment benefits. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, our Unemployment Trust Fund was the 17th strongest in the nation. #lagov #lalege
At our current trajectory, we will have to borrow from the federal government as early as September to replenish the fund to continue paying state unemployment benefits to Louisiana workers. #lagov #lalege

For anyone out there minimizing the seriousness of the current COVID-19 situation across the state and deliberately spreading misinformation, you are doing yourself, your neighbor and Louisiana a terrible disservice. (1/8) #lagov #lalege
A positive COVID-19 case reported to the state refers to a specific individual, whether they tested positive once, twice or however many times.

One case = one person.

It is grossly irresponsible to suggest or imply that the state is inflating numbers. (2/8) #lagov #lalege
COVID-19 is going to show up in testing first, hospitalizations second and deaths third. There’s no way the hospitalizations are going up and the deaths are going up and the cases aren't going up with them—it just doesn’t make sense. (3/8) #lagov #lalege

Today, I signed a proclamation that immediately halts any gathering of more than 250 people until Monday, April 13, closes all K-12 public schools statewide effective Monday, March 16 and also moves upcoming state elections. #lagov #lalege

We are at an inflection point now and we are going to take bold action to minimize the further spread of this illness. #lagov #lalege
That is why I am issuing this order today, ending all events of more than 250 people, closing our schools, and reducing the amount of face-to-face public interaction at state government buildings. #lagov #lalege

Today is not only the start of a new Regular Session. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for Louisiana. #lagov #lalege
For myself, it is the start of my second term as governor, during which time I will continue to put Louisiana first and advance priorities that are important to the people of this state. #lagov #lalege
For you, today marks the beginning of a legislature that looks much different than it did a year ago. As I look across this room, I see many familiar faces who have worked with me over the past four years to set Louisiana back on the right track. #lagov #lalege
