THE NORTH & THE PLAYERS
1.The solution to the insecurities of the Sahel region is unfortunately far from here. Beginning with the US alone having 29 military bases in Africa with 15 of those in our region. Then France with military bases in all francophone countries for both

2.Troops on ground & drones centres. Monitoring militias (Arms) movements from Libya to the restive region of morocco, then Mali,Niger & Chad. Up to the horn of Africa where somalia serves as training ground. Basically we dealing with hundreds of million of dollars in arms sales

3 verses billions of dollars more maintaining these bases.
NOTE that for over 4 decades Ghadafi installed & funded govts & tribal militiamen in the whole sahel plus military aids to command loyalty. Even entered W/Africa with Charles Tailor & Fonday Sanko as launching pads.

4. Arms proliferation was at it's peak, which after his death were never returned. At least attempts were made to get some weapons back after the Liberian & S/Leone canage was over. Now with the stoppage of monthly payments to tens of thousands of these militiamen as salaries

5. Banditry is the only source of revenue known to these many groups, people whose only tools are guns & ammunitions. Where else to turn than on an agricultural thriving northern Nigeria.
The terrorism seen in the North which has potential going South has been years in coming.

6. Changing service chiefs or clamoring for self defense exposes the lack of grasp of the multi dimensional nature of the fight.From the sales of weapons to the constant supplies of ammunitions are done far from here. It can't be stopped but can be controlled to a low very level

7. Three fold strategy is key:
ENGAGE and NEGOTIATE with the foreign donors of our neighbors (Niger & Chad), whose aids/grants accounts for over 60% of their national budgets. The bandits from the whole region come through these two countries to attack & return, they are seen.

8. Following the collapse of the multi national joint task force, these donor nations have the leverage to pull the strings on their ''hosts'' to corporate with us and to share surveillance from their satellites on militias movements and drone attacks where needful.

9. Secondly, higher level of monitoring our borders whose length is over 1,650km with over 500 unmanned porous borders roads. Here NIGCOM equipments be modified beyond weather watching to imagery surveillance or we subscribe to commercial satellites to police that length of land

10. Thirdly, border communities must OFFICIALLY be incorporated into our national security architecture. Defence budget to fully train & equip vigilantes for information gathering & not a handful of spies or paid hunters as presently done, but communities fully active & involved

11. The safety zones bandits always return to after operations identified & ''scotched earth'' model applied.
WINNING THIS FIGHTS GOES BEYOND BULLETS & BOMBS.
Lets approach the players (countries) not focus on the killing the pawns who seem endless.
