KEY ISSUES BEFORE NIGERIAN GOVERNORS MEET WEDNESDAY?
'Worried' about Nigeria's continued tanking security architecture; amid prevalent economic misfortunes; breakdown of law & order, etc, Governors under the aegis of the @NGFSecretariat are billed to meet on Wed, Dec. 2, 2020?
2/ Sept. 2, 2020, in a @THISDAYLIVE op-ed by Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, he wrote: "The quality of men and women at the helm of affairs cannot rescue this country (Nigeria) from its current state of decay and looming decomposition."
3/ Feb 11, 2020, in his homily at the funeral mass of Michael Nnadi, a student of the Catholic Good Shepherd Seminary, Kaduna, who was abducted and subsequently murdered by 'unknown gunmen,' Bishop Kukah lamented: "Nigeria is not worth dying for."
4/ Like 18-year-old Seminarian Michael Nnadi, like many other ordinary Nigerians helplessly killed by blood-tasty state & non-state marauders, the @NigeriaGov failed them all.
5/ Yours Truly would've given up on the Nigerian-State. But when I go through Alexis De Tocqueville's "Democracy in America and Two Essays on America," a book that captured his 9month visit to America with his friend Gustave de Beaumont, in May 1831, I'm cautiously optimistic.
6/ America is 244 years old, as its declaration of Independence was on July 4, 1776.
For 244 years, Her democracy has evolved through popular struggles & movements, that when conflicts arise, they're solved by the groups in power and the groups that aspire to share power.
7/ Since the 1914 amalgamation, Nigerians have made two successful attempts for #ABetterNigeria:
1. The Nationalist Movement (1920-1960) 2. Pro-democracy Movement (1983-1999).
Such progressive movements are lacking today, that I insist, Nigeria urgently Restructures or Bursts.
8/ Without much ado, before the @kfayemi-led @NGFSecretariat meets tomorrow, the following germane issues must be religiously looked into:
1. Reforming @DefenceInfoNG 2. Decentralising @PoliceNG into 37 Independent State Police & 774 Independent Local Police Departments
9/ 3. Devolving excess powers to States & LGAs from the 68-item Exclusive Legislative List 4. Immediate & compulsory elections across Nigeria's 774 Local Government Areas between now & May 29, 2023 5. Steeply reducing the emoluments of elected politicians, amid rising poverty
10/ 6. Cancelling the bogus retirement packages for ex-governors 7. Doing away with the secretive Security Votes for Governors 8. Opening the Budgeting System across Federal, State & Local Council levels 9. Central Database with unique Social Security Numbers for all Nigerians
11/ 10. Conducting a compulsory, true & unbiased census every 10 years 11. Immediate electoral reforms- electronic voting with paper trails 12. Immediate reforms for Nigeria's Policing, Judicial & Prisons System 13. Immediate re-deregulation of Nigeria's oil & power sector...
12/ NATIONAL IDEALS: To save Nigeria from further tanking, @kfayemi-led @NGFSecretariat must religiously look at entrenching ideals such as:
1. Sanctity of Human Lives 2. Justice for all 3. Rule of Law 4. Republicanism 5. Social Equality 6. Egalitarianism ideals of Jesus Christ
13/ NATIONAL IDEALS: 7. No social distinction between public officials and ordinary citizens 8. Love for Freedom & Independence 9. Spirit of Association & Locality 10. Spirit of Individualism & Communalism 11. Separating Religion from the State
14/ Tied to the abovementioned, to halt Nigeria's long-term decline since 1962/1963, there is need to drive the seedbeds of civic virtues through:
1. Families 2. Local Communities/Neighborhoods 3. Faith Communities/Religious Institutions 4. Voluntary Civic Organizations, etc.
15/ Dear Chairman, @kfayemi, additionally, laying a solid foundation for Nigeria for the benefits of future generations, the @NGFSecretariat urgently needs to discuss:
1. Resource Control 2. Birth Records System 3. Death Records System 4. Marriage Records System 5. Tax System
16/ 6. Massive investments in Road/Rail Infrastructures- #OperationTarAllRoads 7. House Numbering System 8. Mailing System 9. Decentralised Departments of Motor Vehicles, Licensing System & Road Rules 10. Emergency Toll-free Services to get hold of the @PoliceNG & @Fedfireng
END 17/ 11. Compulsory Auto Insurance 12. Credit Worthiness System 13. Electoral Reforms with Independent Electoral Umpires 14. Water System 15. Drainage System
Nigeria'll continue to sink without adopting the American spirits of provincial liberty & local self-government.
The current ruling elite in Abuja mouth Restructuring, cede more powers to States, zilch. State Govs mouth Restructuring, cede powers to LGAs, hell no.
Following the series of recent meetings @MBuhari's Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari had with leaders of Nigeria's 6 geo-political zones, @GovWike of Rivers State says Buhari 'll burn Nigeria if he fails to Restructure Nigeria between now & when he exits on May 29, 2023?
I hate to break it to @GovWike, his colleagues at @NGFSecretariat, Restructuring Nigeria, thus laying a solid foundation for future generations goes beyond Buhari, @NigeriaGov, including @nassnigeria.
Nigeria got 774 LGAs (on paper), right? How many got elected administrations?
2019: HOW NDIGBO MADE ATIKU A SALEABLE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
Pathetically, the last few days, Ndigbo have come under severe attacks by some twitteratis from the North/South West, who are avid supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar- @atiku, over #NigeriaDecides2023.
2/ It is barely 30months to #NigeriaDecides2023. Ndigbo are saying, for Equity & Justice, power should shift to the South, particularly, the South East, since incumbent @NGRPresident Muhammadu Buhari will be completing the turn of the North, by May 29, 2023.
3/ Hell no, avid supporters of former Vice President @atiku ain't having it.
@HAHayatu, @olushola_shola, et al, have in the past few days continued to slander the Great people of Alaigbo for standing for Justice & Equity?
JAJA WACHUKWU VS. MAITAMA SULE: WHEN MERIT MATTERED IN NIGERIA
In his appreciation message to Nigerians at home & in diaspora, for their support & prayers over his appointment as Justice Minister & Solicitor-General of Alberta, a province in Canada, our own @KayceeMaduYEG wrote:
2/ Our own @KayceeMaduYEG in his message stated that he looks forward to a day when Nigeria & Africa become places where hardwork & merit are rewarded.
Comrades, time was when hardwork & merit were actually rewarded in Nigeria.
I share a story from Nigeria's First Republic...
3/ When Nigeria gained Independence on October 1, 1960, Sir Tafawa Balewa doubled as Nigeria's Prime Ministers & Foreign Affairs Advocate, until 1961, when an official Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Relations Ministry was created.
'NDIGBO & THEIR VICTIM MENTALITY': TIME TO PROPERLY GUIDE @MoghaluKingsley
48hours after our own Prof. @MoghaluKingsley, a highly cerebral & industrious son of Ala Igbo, tied the 5 decades of marginalization of Ndigbo in Nigeria, to 'victim mentality,' he is yet to recount?
2/ I've waited so patiently to see Prof. @MoghaluKingsley's reaction, the last 48 hours, but zilch. Against this backdrop, I write to properly guide him that there is nothing like 'victim mentality' among Ndigbo, when the issues of post-civil war are critically examined.
3/ Dear @MoghaluKingsley, where is the 'victim mentality' for a people whose lands were left a desolate place after a 30-month fratricidal civil war, but made a very strong recovery, barely 7 years after, as captured succinctly by @nytimes in its February 21, 1977 publication?
BIAFRA (MAY 30, 1967- MAY 30, 2020): 53 YEARS AFTER, SO FAR, HOW WELL?
Today, May 30, 2020, is 53 years that Gen. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, after very wide consultations across the Old Eastern Region, including today's S-South, declared a young Republic, BIAFRA.
2/ In my earthly sojourn, thus, far, I've met and conferenced with global citizens of no less that 40 countries- United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Serbia, Ireland, China, Jamaica, South Korea, North Korea, Mexico, Guatemala, Columbia, India...
3/ I've also met and conferenced with global citizens from Nepal, Guyana, Republic of Antigua & Barbuda, Mali, Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, Italy, Sudan, Indonesia, Haiti, Ethiopia, Liberia, Slovakia, Sierra Leone, Benin Republic, Togo, Guinea, Zambia, South Africa, among others.
1. Decentralise @PoliceNG- 37 SP; 774+ LPDs 2. Compulsory Vehicle Insurance 3. Decentralise @FRSCNigeria into 37 States Motor Vehicle Depts to issue License Plates, Drivers Licenses, et al.
2/ Among other laws, when an accidents occur, no matter who you're, no BIG DEAL:
- If drivers are okay & vehicles driveable, move out of the road
- Call Local cops via 911/112
- Both parties get each other's License Plate, Drivers License & Insurance cards
- Cop(s) investigate
3/ Local Cop(s) Investigation
- Questions separately both drivers to ascertain who is at fault
- Collects both drivers' Driving Licenses, Insurance Cards, License Plates Nos
- Inputs DLNs & LPNs on State's Motor Vehicle Dept Portal to see outstanding infractions by any party.
