News that the #Jamaica50 flight left carrying the grand & great grandchildren of the #Windrush generation is shocking. Despite much success in getting stays in individual cases, a JR regarding the interests of children failed to obtain interim relief but continues. 1/16

Thankfully, much fewer men have gone than planned. We believe 13 of 50. This flight, during the height of a pandemic which the government has mismanaged is irresponsible. It is believed that the Jamaicans had tried to raise this as a public health issue but in the end, their 2/16

former colonial master cracked the whip. It is a myth that Jamaica gets a bounty per body which lands but they might as well. The ruling party there is a conservative party allied to the UK Conservatives; both are members of the right wing International Democratic Union.3/16

So though there's no bounty per person, allies support each other & each benefits through bilateral agreements on trade & aid & information sharing & in voting in international fora and so on. The only reason why we have DFID, is to rule the waves and obtain compliance. 4/16

So this grissly business, re people who have lived most of their lives in the UK & who have families here, who in many cases have been out of prison for years, over a decade in a case I know of, are denied a second chance in a form of gross double punishment. 5/16

Williams did not find that the Home Office is institutional racist in her WLLR but was concerned. The ECHR found that the Home Office broke equalities law. These reports cause much concern as does the resignation of a senior policy officer in the Windrush team citing racism. 6/16

But the racism & discrimination found in this dept is driven by ideology, the very ideology which caused new pieces of immigration law which would discriminate against non white people & see these grandchildren & great-grandchildren of the Windrush, deemed less favourable. 7/16

The Home Sec extolled the lack of virtues of person A & B in her letter of the 1/12 without telling you about C to Z who include groomed county lines victims, people raised in care & people with motoring offences as we saw in 2019, despite being told they were all murderers 8/16

and rapists. Or without telling you that this is about nationality in that these children & grandchildren of the men and women who came to build this country but by dint of legislation found themselves unable to obtain the status of their forebears though remember Windrush 9/16

which stripped those forebears of rights. She also didn't tell you that her own fees structure made it impossible for people with difficult lives to be able to regularise their immigration status when they could, even before you factor in the complexity of the process. 10/16

Never before have so many varied voices spoken out against a deportation flight. The investigations into the Home Office, concerns about this govt and Black Lives Matter have probably converged to focus minds on the conditions of Black people in the UK. 11/16

The Home Secretary may or may not be on her way out. This may have been a last salvo to her gallery as she seeks to show she's one of them. In my mind, she is me. We are women, of colour and from working class parents. Our backgrounds are a trilogy of oppression. 12/16

So I try my hardest to understand her. I even met her once and found her amenable. She makes a lot of mistakes but much of the criticism of her is ironically because she is a non white woman. The men around her are bigger jerks but far less demonised. Then I remind myself 13/16

that she's a diminutive figure, literally and figuratively, in an evil system whose very existence isn't so much to protect its borders but to keep the other out for one reason only, that belief that it's what the voters want. 14/16

Be it Brexit or the last gen election, a hysteria was heeped upon an unsuspecting peoples based on race and nationality. They fell for it mainly by snakeskin salesmen parading as politicians, media moguls and influencers. 15/16

The system and the law must be reformed. Only then will we get justice for families suffering as a result of the Windrush scandal, deportations, family seperation and more. This task will need all of your help so don't go away until the next charter. Get onboard now. 15/16
