It's sad when the US (Terrence Daniels) & the UK (BBC) does a better job of outlining & understanding Canada's DPM Freeland's (Finance Minister) Dec 1, 2020 Economic Statement - than our (Canada's) opposition members & #Cdnmedia
2/ from the BBC article "Monday's fiscal plan pledges C$1bn to help provinces and territories improve Covid-19 infection control in long-term care facilities."
Note, fed NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was claiming there was nothing in the statement for long-term care homes
3/ from the BBC article "Industries that have been particularly vulnerable to economic shutdowns like tourism, travel and arts will be eligible for business loans up to C$1m, with a 10-year term."
Note, #Cdnmedia were falsely claiming there wasn't anything for tourism industry
4/ from the BBC article "And for Canada's lower and middle income families, package promises up to C$1,200 for each child under 6."
Note, #Cdnmedia claiming that the universal child care looked promising, fingers crossed, but disappointed nothing current for mothers.
5/ also, abbrev: "C$1bn [for] vaccine agreements [...] secured most diverse vaccine portfolio in the world. Cda secured 7 diff vaccine contracts, enough for each Cdn to receive 10 doses, free of charge"
Yet, oppo pols & #Cdnmedia make it sound like Cdns in dire situ, re vaccines

2/ powerful speech from @perrybellegarde, on @CBCNews. Thank you, CBC, for including sidebars with key points underpinning this momentous event - "Ottawa Introduces UNDRIP Legislation"
(previous Bill C-262 introduced in 2018, stalled in Senate)
3/ from the sidebars (h/t @CBCNews):
What is the 'UNDRIP'?
. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
. 46 articles ratified in 2007 by 144 members of UN Gen'l Assembly
. Recognizes basic human rights of Indigenous people
excellent explainer by @janycemcgregor just now, on @CBCNews - regarding boil water advisories
Thanks for explaining how complicated this is - orig budget not enough, top-up in econ statement ystrday should bring closer to possibility of meeting goals. ...
2/ (cont'd re boil water advisory file) - that pandemic delays to construction adding costs. More to it than construction, also maintenance, training locals, connecting to homes, and so on
3/ my take-away (correct me if I'm wrong): GoC initially underestimated amt $$ needed to meet March 2021 goal. Ystrday's econ statement includes $$ to make up for this but difficult to predict amt needed. When construction proj's delayed, costs can skyrocket. COVID-19 delays
this sounds like 12 yrs full-time in Regular Forces, to me. Is that true?
"resembles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s logo, which recalls O’Toole’s military service with the RCAF, where he spent 12 years before becoming a private-sector lawyer — something he often talks about."
listening to Dominic LeBlanc speak about how they transferred extra healthcare funds to the provinces & territories for combatting COVID-19, and one example he gives is for use for contact-tracing. My question is why is the Alberta govt (UCP) Health Minister not using that money?
2/ meant to tag (Canada's) Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs @DLeBlancNB
3/ this is an interesting read. The author, Susan Wright, explains why we need data (currently missing due to break down in contact-tracing capabilities) in order to inform COVID-19 measures, effectively combat the virus - in Alberta. susanonthesoapbox.com/2020/11/29/ken…
1/ I've been thinking that Canada's Premiers are pushing the envelope too far, in terms of the tug of war in which their engaged with Ottawa right now ...
2/ it's like the Premiers are holding out fully using COVID-19 funds - allowing COVID-19 to spread, their citizens to die & hospital systems to overload - like a kidnapper negotiating with the family to give in to their demands or continue starving the kidnap victim …
3/ Premiers are demanding a change to the healthcare transfers from Ottawa, rather than specific COVID-19 tied funds. As a result, they are ignoring the urgent & serious situation their citizens are facing right now. They are being ruthless & we are simply collateral damage
