We're pleased to announce #ODIN2021 - a global assessment of the coverage and openness of official stats. 2020 marks our 5th edition and it is #opendata’s biggest year yet.
1⃣#Opendata is on the rise, with countries demonstrating the greatest progress to date. The median ODIN score increased by 6.4 points to 48.8 in 2020. This is the largest jump in any year since ODIN began five years ago.
2⃣The 30 top performing countries in ODIN have mostly remained the same since 2016, but that’s starting to change for #ODIN2021. 5 new countries have joined the top 30, with 2 first-timers from the Asia region.
3⃣Countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands made the most significant improvements in #ODIN2021, with some increasing their scores by more than 40 points.
4⃣Yet, lower-income countries continue to struggle most w/ making data open, underscoring the need for increased financial resources & capacity-building. The difference between median openness scores of high & low-income countries is nearly 2x as high as median coverage scores.
5⃣Publishing #genderdata also remains a challenge for countries. Crime and justice statistics are the least available data in the #ODIN2021 gender index, which are necessary for helping prevent violence against women.
Stay tuned for the annual report - to be published in early 2021. Until then, read the executive summary and explore the #ODIN2021 results and rankings: bit.ly/OpenDataInvent…
