"Johnson doesn't want to do a deal that he'll regret in 2 years".
I'm not sure Johnson thinks he'll be there in 2 years? He might do, he's such a narcissist.
Also of course fundamental problem that most trade deals are about negotiating a more close relationship.
Negotiating a more distant - essentially worse - one is always going to be difficult, because it's not mutually beneficial compared to the old one, it's mutually worse.
Worse than that, damaging the EU SM is an express intent of many who backed Brexit, and the EU knows this.
And now we know UK govt are ok with breaking int. law.
They'd be mad to offer zero tariffs without some extremely strong oversight.
(Mad to offer it at all, imho?)

I'm having fun seeing @devisridhar 's reactions to this story. She's right of course. The only question for me is are they deliberately outraging people here, or are they (Govt) just crazy?
The "good" news is you can be bringing in a tan, a bad t-shirt, half a cup of sand and a raging case of the 'rona - you still don't have to quarantine in the UK.
