PM Ik talking to Hamza Abbasi about colonialism. Says the colonised have an inferiority complex. Says in Aitchison they were told to never speak in Urdu. Says when growing up in Punjab Club and Gymkhana u couldnt wear Pakistani clothes. (Says this is the background he grew up in
Says when he went to the UK he realised they were trying to make 'us' into replicas of themselves. IK says his strength is that he always analysed his life at every step.
So he realised then -- when he was in England [also adds that not many have seen England the way he has] -- that 'we' have a concept of Allah and Akhirat and realised that in the West there was no such concept and Marxism was the leading concept there at the time.
Says sex, drugs and rock n roll were the norm there. IK says when he was in England in the 70s the divorce rate was increasing slowly and then became terrible. Says we here have a strong family system.
HAA asks: how can we make our family system better? bec otherwise we will find it tough to manage affairs. IK: says the West has a wonderful welfare system that helps everyone. Says here in Pak our family system protests us.
Says as sex drugs and rock n roll and fahaashi increased in the West, and popstars made it all trendy and normalised this, the youth also became that way. IK: Islam says gunhon pe parda daalo, and when you dont do that society is ruined.
Now Ik talking about Bollywood, and how it took inspiration from Hollywood. HAA interjects and says before the 70s even Hollywood films were restrained. IK says as films changed in Bollywood, society changed too
PM IK now talking abt Iqbal, the 'genius'. Says we need an intellectual base here. Says in Pakistan, we have English medium who call themselves liberals but are actually Westernised. Then we have Urdu medium etc. Per the PM, the liberals dont critique Western policies trends etc
HAA asks about the single curriculum push by the govt. IK: first lets talk about how I made my way to spirituality. Says I studied a alot...Iqbal and Ali Shariati. Says I decided that the reason we pray five times is so we know there is a choice to greatness and choice to ruin
IK says he used his experiences and realised that the path to greatness and happiness is the path showed by the Prophet (pbuh).
PM IK says he saw up close and personal the lives of celebrities and pop stars and saw the way drugs and their lifestyles ruined their lives. Says pleasure-seeking in the form of drugs will just lead to addiction. [Lots of talk re drugs in the interview]
PM IK says his life changed when he decided to Build SKMTH. HAA again asks abt the SNC. IK: we need to understand that the role model for him at this time is the Prophet (pbuh). Says we need to teach our kids about who their role model is.
PM says this is why for grades 9 & 10 have decided to teach Seerat Nabi to kids. Secondly, starting PhD on Seerat Nabi. Says also making another university which will teach Sufism. Religious schools will be asked to teach mainstream subjects to kids along with religious studies.
HAA says its great the PM introduced Ertugral etc. Says Pak media also needs direction so it can produce better content and have a 'unified direction' to make content to improve the youth.
PM IK says unfortunately people mostly work for their own interests. Says history recognises only those who work for the people, not those who have money. Gives eg of Asfaque Ahmad as a great man.
PM IK says its disturbing that sex-related crime is on the rise here. Says its under-reported. Mentions the ordinance and the punishments they are introducing. Says mobile phones have spread 'tabahi'. That kids can now see and access stuff that no one had before.
Again talking about Hollywood and Bollywood being our inspiration. Says that's why he advocated for Ertugral, which has Islamic values but is also popular. Says we cant ban stuff but can given alternative.
*give alternatives (sorry).
IK adds that the govt will try and introduce the media to the idea that there is a lot of content they can create which can improve society
HAA mentions fahaashi again. IK seems to agree and gives examples of all great civilisations that are no more. IK tries to add nuance by saying that the West still has better moral codes even now.
And brings in journalists and the petition re absconder's being allowed on air. Says these ppl (journos) are ruining us by doing this. Now presenting Singapore as an eg of how to rid society of corruption
Now gives eg of Sackur interview. Says in the UK if someone is convicted of corruption they cant go on the media bec the media will do to them what Sackur did to Dar.
PM Ik says look at the British parliament and how it handled Brexit. Says look at us: opposition doesnt let us work or debate. All they want is an NRO from Imran Khan.
Says till a society differentiates between 'chors' and normal people, it wont move fwd. IK: I was asked to provide a money trail even though I held no public office.
Talking about the opposition, IK says they have never provided proof of their money being white. Also says journalists protect them and 'media house' protects them.
IK says the opposition has been blackmailing the govt for an NRO. Says they [opp] started with blackmailing over the FATF by making amendments. IK says since 30 years two parties have been in power, fought, squabbled and then Mush gave them NRO
Says as a result, Pak lost a lot of money when the opp were in power. Says he will never give an NRO to them like Mush (calls it ghadaari).
IK reiterates that he had rather quit office then give the opp an NRO. Says jo marzi kar lein meine NRO nahin dena.
Says Lahore is seeing a major Covid rise. PM IK says no one will be allowed to hold a jalsa there. Anyone using a sound system there or anything will be charged BUT we will not stop them so they become 'Che Guevara' or 'Joan of Arc' or revolutionaries.
HAA mentions the cricket team in New Zealand. IK ignores the comment [LOL]. Continues calling the PDM a 'union of crooks'. Says they cant beat PTI jalsas. Says they are welcome to do their jalsas but everyone who holds the event will be charged.
HAA asks about Karachi and Balochistan. IK says PPP takes votes from 'interior Sindh' and neglects Khi. HAA asks abt local govt. IK says nahin hai wahan local govt. PM says the Khi package will help w/some of the main issues the city faces
On Balochistan, IK says we are spending historic amounts on the province.
The prime minister says every city should have its own local govt [ed: this is true and our cities do need this]
HAA says the challenges PM IK faces (foreign and domestic) are unprecedented. IK: Hamza, we have two issues. First, we have had severe fiscal deficit. Ppl need to pay taxes; emphasises taxpaying. Second, we have never focused on exports.
Says during the Noon League govt Pak exports decreased. Which is why the country has to go the IMF. Says if these two imbalances are fixed the country will improve
IK: our exports are finally increasing. Our current account deficit is now improving. The first time our industry is being facilitated
PM IK: the most difficult thing for me was to go ask for money from other countries, Says i never even aske my father for money so for me this was tough to ask for my country.
For the future of Pak, IK says just by improving tourism we will see an increase in our economy. Example: Switzerland, Malaysia. Then comes agriculture. Says if we double our agricultural output, we will rise.
Says if we focus on mining and minerals we will again manage to improve Pak standing. Talks about CPEC's potential. Also says facilitating IT will also make the country strengthen economic output
IK: says I have seen ups and downs. Was told you cant become the captain, or win a world cup, or make a hospital or become PM. Now im told the country can't be fixed. Says if you follow your dream, you must burn your boats. There must be no Plan B. 'Ya kaamyab hun ga ya maroon ga
Says soul-searching and self analysis helps you attain your goals. Says this is my last mission: to make Pakistan a great nation. Not an Asian Tiger but a Madina Ki Riasat, a welfare country. A country where the rich and poor have the same justice. Where no NROs are given.
HAA talking about Self-accountability and asks PM for a paigham for a nation that has akhirat ka khauf. IK: when I was collecting funds for Shaukat Khanum I went to my Aitchisonian friends they were all encouraging but didnt give a penny. Then I went to kids and the awaam.
Says when I would go to the people, even a tea boy and less privileged people would hand me money for the hospital. Says I would ask them why and theyd say they were doing it for Akhirat.
Now talking about the Muslim revolution brought about by the Prophet (pbuh). Says do read the book 'The Arab Conquest'.
IK says the Muslim civilisation is great and liberated the people. Says Pakistan will become a country that the world will acknowledge as great.
And its a wrap, folks. This was a very quick somewhat clumsy attempt at translating and transcribing the interview

Huge crowds at the #PDMQuettaJalsa You can watch it live here:
Also: many apologies for not live-tweeting the jalsa. I miscalculated the time it would start.
Akhtar Mengal speaking: says Balochistan has seen so much grief, so much bloodshed, so many missing people whose parents and families have been awaiting their return for decades.

Because I'm in Lahore. And because winter is at the door, I go back to these words written by @SairaAnsari_ about the city (we) left behind:
"Come, walk with me through a city I left behind. There is a sense of bereavement, of grieving, mourning, lamentation.
"Interspersed, there is also a warm nostalgia. Lahore was home. No, Lahore is always home. Like many ageless metropolises, Lahore is that brew of uncanny juxtapositions that is hard to concoct on your own.
"It is an adolescence that never quite matures – an unbridled youthful energy that is so charming; but then so clumsy when you need it to be responsible...." .
