It's a simple matter.
Crimes against humanity are wrong.
Denying them is wrong.
But so effective has Syrian and Russian propaganda been, and so much confusion has it caused, that stating these simple truths attracts a thousand trolls.
Every time Bashar al-Assad launches a chemical weapons attack, his apologists claim
a. It never happened.
b. It was an accident or
c. It was a ‘false flag’ attack.
When these claims are debunked, they simply transfer them to the next attack.
Next time you see someone denying a chemical weapons attack by Assad’s forces, asked them which of his CW attacks they agree *have* happened.
Some of the same people now also deny the horrific treatment of the #Uighur people by the Chinese government. There seems to be a cadre of Western ghouls, shifting from atrocity to atrocity, denying them and exonerating the perpetrators.
I’m ashamed to note that many of these ghouls claim to be on the left. If being on the left means anything, it should mean caring about other people’s lives. Instead, they see everything through a geopolitical lens. If “our” bastards are doing it, it must be OK.
They create a mirror image of the heartless strategic interests of Western governments. The internet is awash with mini-Henry Kissingers, prepared to sacrifice anyone or anything if it serves a geopolitical cause.
This is the socialism of fools.
We seem to be in an age in which it’s OK not to care. Whether you are Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro or an atrocity-denying leftist, you can brush away the lives of others with total unconcern.
Why do I keep writing about this?
Is it because I’m a “Western imperialist warmonger” working for MI5/Mossad/WEF etc? (Seriously, I get called all of this and worse).
No, it’s because I care about two things here:
1. human lives
2. the state of the left.

Just remember everyone. The real reason for Brexit is NOT the culture war Farage and the billionaire press fomented.
It's the pursuit of ruthless economic interests by a particular faction.
Don't take your eye off that.
theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
There's an iron law of 21st Century politics:

Whenever rich and powerful people want a nation to adopt an economic policy that's helpful to them and harmful to us, they disguise it as a culture war.
Farage and his ilk are simply the billionaires' stooges, providing a smokescreen of xenophobia and sovereignty, behind which their masters pursue their political and economic interests.

A crucial step towards a kinder, greener world.
Anyone who cares about animal welfare, cares about pollution, deforestation, climate breakdown and human health should welcome it.

To those eating meat from animals, whose instinctive reaction is "yuck!":
Visit a broiler shed
an abbatoir
and a packing plant
and you'll see what yuck really looks like.
One day, when cultured meat is the norm, we will look back on the age when animals were reared and slaughtered to serve our appetites with horror and disgust.

For years, the Russian and Syrian governments, their paid trolls and useful idiots on both the far right and the left have dominated the conversation about #Syria on social media. They have denied or justified Assad’s atrocities, and spread lurid conspiracy theories.

But now, thanks to the work of @chloehadj, @bellingcat and others, the tide is at last turning. There’s a palpable sense of panic among those who now find themselves exposed as atrocity deniers.
bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08…
I’m sorry to say that, until recently, the left had failed dismally on this issue. Very few of us called out the lies and stood in solidarity with the Syrian people, as they've been murdered en masse and oppressed by the world’s bloodiest dictator. That's now changing

The reality of Brexit is a deregulatory dystopia. It will bring no good to you or me, but will be of great benefit to the dirtiest companies and the most ruthless oligarchs.
theguardian.com/environment/20…
The demand for Brexit arose from the Pollution Paradox:

The more damaging the enterprise, the more money it must spend on politics to ensure it’s not regulated out of existence. As a result, politics comes to be dominated by the most harmful companies and oligarchs.
This paradox now governs our politics. Understanding it is crucial to resisting it.

This might sound strange, but I think we can judge the health of a public culture by what I call the Actor Index. This measures the proportion of featured interviews in the newspapers that are devoted to actors. The higher the proportion, the greater the trouble we’re in
Thread/
Now I have nothing against actors. But, by definition, we value them for their ability to adopt someone else’s persona and speak someone else’s words. Fetishising actors reveals an obsession with images, rather than with the realities they obscure.
Guy Debord argued that “the spectacle” (the domination of social relationships by images) is used to justify the “dictatorship of modern economic production”. It disguises and supplants the realities of capitalism, changing our perceptions until we become “consumers of illusion”.
