So, I got laid off late last week as part of the ABC News layoffs. I won’t lie, it was a bit of a surprise, but if anything 2020 has been perspective-setting & I’m grateful for the past 5 years, if a little sad. So...onward. Some of my best work follows. (Hi, editors!) 1/
Near to my heart is this piece I did on the political culture of the suburbs. I think it could have easily been at home in a magazine. 2/ fivethirtyeight.com/features/a-tal…
Like everyone, I wrote lots about Trump, but here’s my final essay on what the past 4 years meant. I can essay on lots of stuff, not just politics! 3/ fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-t…
I spent a lot of time covering the GOP, which led to this look back at the historical roots of its racism-as-electoral strategy. Excited for bigger projects like this—would love to write a book. 4/ fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-r…
I’ve spent a lot of the past 5 years gabbing on a podcast (which is a lot of fun), but I’m also excited for many other possibilities that the medium holds (got some ideas). 6/
Oh, I also dabbled in interviewing on-screen. Here’s my sit-down with Stacey Abrams. 7/
Or, send me overseas! Or to do reporting on topics that aren’t politics. I’ve done that before, too. Here’s my reporting from Qatar 8/ harpers.org/2015/09/bait-a…
On a personal note @ChadwickMatlin & @mashfordg’s (miss you) made me a sharper thinker @Tonyhkchow & @galendruke brought patience & levity to life when I needed it & my dear friend @NateSilver538 took a chance on me & put up with an awful lot of insubordination w/good cheer. 10/
There are too many others to thank—the art, data viz, and analysis that makes 538 what it is comes from so many smart, talented people. I'm rooting for all of them. 11/11

Fascinating that voters who ranked Warren as their 1st choice do not rank Sanders as their 2nd choice—Harris is. And among voters who ranked Sanders 1st, Biden comes in 2nd. We don't have the data 🤓 but my hunch is that this is definitely a class split 1/ fivethirtyeight.com/features/lanes…
You'd think given the candidates' ideological similarities, that Warren/Sanders supporters would rank these candidates as their 1st and 2nd choice. But I think we saw evidence in 2016 that Sanders drew from yes, BK hipster types (hi, Chapo) but also a lot of blue collar people 2/
Anecdotally, it makes sense to me that Warren/Harris people are grouping: they might see themselves as the better informed voter—ie, typically the voter who's college educated/white collar...exactly the kind of Dem who voted Clinton in the primary 3/
