Last night, the President sacked the director general of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nasiru Ladan Argungun for obvious various offences ranging from insubordination of his Supervising Minister, the Honourable
Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, @fkeyamo, SAN and being a clog in the wheels of the Administration's progress.
Not many knew that both Keyamo and Argungun had been having a silent fierce battle on who should direct the Special Public Works job where 774,000
Nigerians have been recruited by the FG, since the @HouseNGR summoned both of them months back which stirred a heated argument. The erstwhile DG began disrespecting Keyamo after the @SPNigeria asked him to take control of the Programme and report directly to the @nassnigeria
a position Keyamo stated was tantamount to disobeying the laws.
The programme was supposed to run between October and December but after initial delays by Argungun, #EndSARS criminals protests also caused it to be shifted to November and after Keyamo has sought an understanding
with Governors for the final take-off, Argungun went to the NASS to inform them that the programme would be delayed again for no just cause despite the Ministry of Finance releasing N25bn in first tranche of payment for the beneficiaries.
To avoid public spat, Keyamo kept his
cool and avoided the media on the issue with people already insinuating they had been deceived by the FG. Keyamo secretly wrote a memo to the President, explaining the nitty-gritty of everything and all the insinuations including some radio stations already suggesting the
programme has been cancelled. Mr President acted on the memo last night, approved the sacking of Argungun and asked Keyamo to nominate an acting DG who must be a Director in the Directorate in order for the Programme to pick up again and payments beginning to be made to
beneficiaries who bank accounts had been opened for before a substantial DG is appointed by him.
This is cheering. It reposes more confidence in the Administration and sounds as a warning to any disrespectful CEO who will not work with his/her Supervising Minister to achieve
