the execution of Brandon Bernard is still scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. ET.
It is a unique feeling working on a story on deadline while simultaneously watching the clock constantly and waiting for likely confirmation that someone has been put to death.
As far as I can tell, the scheduled 6pm et execution did not happen, as his legal team waits on the Supreme Court

hm wonder how we got to a point where we’d be losing that many a day, hopefully Mr. Trump can get to the bottom of this
There’s plenty of blame to go around for the current situation and the whole crisis, and FDA gets its fair share but other countries that also haven’t had a vaccine have managed to not get so thunderously corpse-ridden as we have, & that reality starts and ends with the president
So, if you want to be mad at someone, maybe make it the guy who instead of using his considerable powers in his closing weeks in office to make life better for people is instead going on a killing spree of federal inmates & also trying to cancel democracy on the way out the door

Doing this story yesterday was extra depressing because you have three layers of tragedy: You gotta read details of a truly horrific double homicide of people begging & praying for their lives. You hear stories of an accomplice who seems to have reformed & whose prosecutors...
...seemed to have kept evidence under wraps that could have spared him the death penalty. (One of the prosecutors responsible for ensuring he got the death penalty, along with 5 jurors, now say the inmate should live.) & thirdly, this is set against the backdrop/foreground of...
...a president and administration that is currently on a killing spree of federal inmates, for which there is no real political benefit but they’re doing it anyway.

I mean this whole heartedly and this is not meant as a compliment
You could give me as much fame, media attention, career advancement, and flattery from the leader of the free world as I could stomach. Give me a lifetime’s worth of it. I could still not imagine any price so hefty that it would compel me to do a fraction of what he did.
