And so obvious except for those who didn’t want to look. Bearing in mind that the architects of Brexit are, for the most part, people without a trace of honour, decency, or capacity for reflection, in pursuit of an outcome that could never be what they said it would be

Naturally, as the inevitable collision between fantasy and reality finally arrives, they will engage in some Freudian projection and scapegoating in order to cover their tracks and manage the crisis by stirring as much nationalist xenophobia as their poisoned pens can produce

This is why Mosley-Farage, writing in the Express today, urged Johnson to go for No Deal because ‘Even if there are traffic queues on the M20 in Kent and disruption to supplies, the public will see this as EU vindictiveness and support his brave decision with even more passion.’

Note the throwaway reference to ‘disruption in supplies’. And the embrace of ‘EU vindictiveness’ as a crisis management strategy for Johnson, a strategy which, it goes without saying, Toad of Toad Hall will take time out from attacking refugees and cycle lanes to pursue

So if - and it is a huge if - there is any way back for a country that has been so comprehensively grifted, we need to recognise the strategy for what it is, and call it out for the disgraceful lie that it is, and point the finger of blame at the liars who brought us here.
