🧵 Folks would literally take a dedicated medical professional off the streets in the middle of a pandemic BEFORE they would allow themselves to be sex worker positive and not engage in misogyny.
This woman, Lauren, knew she didn’t have the mental and physical bandwidth after a 40-hour work week as a medic to turn around and take on a second job (and as someone who could be a potential patient thank goodness for her self awareness).
This poor young medic may lose her job tomorrow because she found a creative way to make ends meet. She turned to onlyfans as a way to supplement her income from the privacy and safety of her home.
She was asked to participate in this NY Post interview and agreed on the grounds that she remain anonymous. The author took it upon himself to disregard that agreement and out her identity.
REPULSIVE & UNETHICAL.
Now folks are trashing her— includes peers in her field. There are men fixing their mouths to talk trash about her— agreeing about being underpaid but chastising her for finding ways to survive. Because we’ve never heard of men posing topless in firefighter calendars, right? 🔥
She has a father who is very ill & is about to be out of work so not only is she supporting herself but also her family & she’s managing to do it w:o taking a second job that puts her in direct contact with the public AND covid.
That’s what’s called being smart and thoughtful.
This article could’ve easily been about the medic who took the second job serving drinks in the busy bar or driving the Uber and now she is patient zero at her job but it isn’t because she made a wise decision.
A decision that was within HER RIGHT because it is HER BODY.
If that was the story we would all get mad about how it’s unfair she had to take that second job that lead to being a superspreader. She’d be our angelic medic who helped shed light on how EMTs aren’t paid appropriately etc. Instead, ppl get to make her the villain & the whore.
Fact check: She did nothing wrong. She hurt no one. Sex work is work.
🧵 I know a lot of us straight/cisgender folks are trying to find a way to respond to the #SCOTUS appointment by showing our support to our LGBTQ+ community members.
For some reason that is, overwhelmingly, coming out in the form of offers to officiate weddings.
I hear you and that's kind. Be there when the moment comes for those couples but let's figure out how to be there for all the other moments too. All the other rights and opportunities that are threatened.
There are so many LGBTQ+ people that are less concerned with a wedding than they are with access to safe housing, to a job, to healthcare, to adoption rights, to freedom from police brutality, to an end to the threat of violence and death as a result of who they are.
Today was my first of 4 days with NC State University faculty walking them through some healing practices (specifically mediation and grounding practices rooted in an anti-racist and community care framework).
I had a wonderful time and can’t wait until the next one. These experiences challenge me as I am still learning so much myself about the power and necessity of healing justice.
Here is an excerpt from the quote I shared with them:
“The Master replied, ‘You are not here to sacrifice your joy or your life. You are here to live, to be happy, and to love. If you can do your best in two hours of meditation, but you spend eight hours instead, you will only grow tired, miss the point, & you won’t enjoy your life.
Hispanic means Spanish-speaking. Latinx and Chicanx people may not be Hispanic. Hispanic people may not be Latinx or Chicanx. it’s an outdated crap term that the U.S. government literally made up for the 1970 census because they needed a way to lump us altogether.
There are areas of the country where this term is more prevalent, even among our own people, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.
