I looked up the alt med industry's value: about 70 billion USD globally (1/7)

While not everyone who is poor relative to the global alternative med industry believes that you can "detox" by drinking smoothies and eating nuts, many people do!! Some of them go to nutritionists who agree that their clients have toxins that "detox" diets will expell. (2/7)

(Dietitians and nutritionists are not the same thing and the former is a clinician and the latter is something else.)

The alt med industry benefits from placebo effects and customers, so they sell dietary "treatments" for having too much fat, but also for other things that (3/7)

will bring them customers. "Stomach" problems? Stress? "Brain fog"? Back pain? Spiritual ailments? Buy this detox! Feel better in 10 days!

Lizzo can both be a promoter of body positivity and have been conned by the alt med industry.

must lose weight and she wasn't even trying to say she was trying to lose weight! She posted pictures of herself because she believed that this product helped her. A "look at me, now!" pic with a pic of "then" for reference doesn't mean (5/7)

"look at my weight loss!" A big woman shared photos and video of herself in connection with an alt med product endorsement. Who is to blame for people's perception that this is fat-shaming? The woman? The alt med industry? Or the audience? Please, forgive Lizzo. (6/7)
