Exodus 6 this AM. One great part of reading through books of the Bible is that you come to familiar or particularly pivotal texts slowly, allowing them to arrive at their own pace & proper place instead of barging in on them. I also love getting a new Bible every 4 or 5 years so
the familiar texts aren’t already marked. I’d not thought to anticipate the “I will” declarations the Lord gave Moses to announce to the Israelites so they arrived with fresh awe.(6:6-7)
1. I will bring you out.

To estimate their importance to Israel, you might consider what the “I am” statements of Jesus in John’s Gospel mean to us. So crucial are these 4 divine “I will” declarations, they are centerpieces in the Jewish Passover meal. The 4 cups of wine correspond with the 4 promises. 
If you’ve never studied the meal, do so. Couldn’t be more worthy of your time. I wish we had margin to expound but I’ll move on to a particular point. Exodus 6:9 reads, “Moses told this to the Israelites but they did not listen to him because of their broken spirit & hard labor.”
We wonder sometimes why people don’t listen to the good news of deliverance in Christ and to the promises given & fulfilled by God through Him. This verse offers us one reason. They are exhausted, overworked, over-burdened and broken in spirit.
We know only the Holy Spirit can give people ears to hear but we need the same Holy Spirit to give us the unction to love, to intercede, to help bear the burdens of those too overwrought to hear. I’ll end with this. God‘s determination remained steadfast. He kept those promises
even though many had been through too much to instantly believe He’d really come through. Our slowness to believe that God is who he says he is and will do what he says he will do does not make any of those things one whit less true. God is determined. He WILL do what he said.
And it is precisely in this truth that we who dare to believe find rest.
