(thread) NEW: Two former presidents of the Arizona State Bar and five other attorneys have jointly filed a rare ethics complaint to the State Bar against 21 attorneys who participated in Trump campaign legal filings (including 11 AZ attorneys). #12News
The 8-page complaint seeks an official investigation which could possibly lead to reprimand, suspension, investigation fees or disbarment. According to the letter, "Confidence in the legal system is seriously eroded when attorneys treat lawsuits as a platform for broadcasting
gossip and innuendo utterly devoid of factual proof, as a political stunt. That is what has happened repeatedly in Arizona and is the basis for thisreport of ethical violations by said attorneys under the Rules of Professional Conduct."
The complaint also states, "For politicians to
spout that nonsense in a press conference is one thing, but for attorneys to try to use the courts solely for political disruption is not allowed... To be an attorney is a privilege, not a right. To retain the privilege,
we must abide by a code of ethics. These twenty-one attorneys did not do so." According to one of the complaint's authors, AZ attorney Dianne Post, such an ethics complaint is rare and not taken lightly. The complaint & investigation could also result in no action whatsoever.
The 11 AZ attorneys named are Dennis Wilenchick, Jack Wilenchick, Lee Miller, Alexander Kolodin, Christopher Viskovic, Chris Ford, Brett Johnson, Eric Spender, Kory Langhofer, Thomas Basile and Davis Spilsbury. It also includes 3 attorneys with Sidney Powell's firm.
🧵Just 3 days before the riot, Congressman Andy Biggs told AZ KTAR listeners he personally spoke with "data scientists" who showed him "anomalies" demonstrating tens of thousands of AZ votes were SUBTRACTED from Trump and RE-ASSIGNED to Biden in AZ. An incredible claim! #12News
A similar theory was floating around for weeks in a conspiracy video on "Rumbler." It relies on an aggregation of 3rd party data. It manipulates spreadsheets to make it appear the data comes directly from Arizona counties. There's NO 1st-hand evidence counties reassigned votes.
One would assume Biggs wasn't referring to this debunked video, given his vaunted position as a Congressman and given the weight his words carry to constituents. But remember, Biggs claims he personally spoke with data scientists who showed him these anomalies.
Governor Ducey announces he will attend presidential inauguration. “In America, we believe in the peaceful transition of power. It doesn't matter who you supported in the election — once the election is over, we put country before party.” #12News
“I was honored to represent Arizona at the inauguration of President Trump in 2017, and I am honored to represent our state at the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies next week...
President-elect Biden is assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history, and I wish him well. I will not agree with him on everything and I certainly will not hesitate to share my views on the public policy issues that matter to Arizonans,
AZ taxpayer alert: (1 of 7) Since taking office, Congressman Biggs has paradoxically portrayed himself a deficit hawk & a champion of the '17 tax cuts law. He tweets metaphors like this about the debt and makes dire warnings about peril to our children and grandchildren. #12News
(2 of 7) From a journalist’s perspective, this all begs one burning question: How does Mr. Biggs in good conscience hold both positions simultaneously?
(3 of 7) The ’17 tax cuts are projected to contribute to an eye-popping $1 trillion deficit this year alone (an annual benchmark not reached since ’09-’12 under Obama during a global financial crisis.)
