Watching the first 3 episodes of Season 5 and it’s really like season 5 really just explained the rise of Marco Inaros. To be it’s very clear Dawes and Johnson failed in their diplomatic resistance #TheExpanse
I saw a tweet saying what is Marco doing if there are now 1300 new planets the Belter can go live on and I’m like ermmmmmm season 4 is right there. Earth wouldn’t let the Belter go through the ring, literally killing them when they tried #TheExpanse
Then when Belters finally do reach a new planet, here comes the UN to kick them off the planet and claim it for themselves. That’s like the whole plot of season 4. Even when the system is given ample resources , enough for everyone #TheExpanse
The Inner Planets still try and hoard those resources and demand that the Belter go last. You have both Earth and Mars with money, and military weapons, of course they can easily stake their claim on the 1300 planets, over desperate Belter refugees #TheExpanse
Anderson Dawes and Fred Johnson wanted a seat at the table. They wanted to play politics and diplomacy, but it doesn’t improve the average Belter’s situation. Earth even has the OPA shooting Belters to keep them out of the ring gates. #TheExpanse
Their resistance failed, and what comes next after diplomacy fails? Violence. The next step after a diplomatic/political resistance fails is a violent resistance, enter Marco. He is that Violent Resistance. #TheExpanse
It’s clear that the OPA flopped when Drummer left Johnson. She was his right hand, his ride or die. She left cause he was willing to sell out Belters to Earth for a seat at the political table. When she saves Marco it’s cause she sees how it playing out #TheExpanse
Fred and Dawes are leaders cause they each run the 2 biggest OPA factions and they each have leverage. If the Belters see that they will kill for the Inners etc then people will turn away from them #TheExpanse
To belters Marco is gonna seem like a necessary evil, cause their situation has not changed. It’s really well laid out how you get to Marco. He’s dangerous cause he is right. He makes Fred and Dawes seem complicit in the oppression of the Belt #TheExpanse
The ‘seat at the table’ is very much a symbol of oppression. The table allows the oppressors to dictate how freedom and rights are given and earned. Gaining as seat means allowing the system to still control you. It determines how far you go and at what cost #TheExpanse
Marco’s doesn’t want a seat at the table (he’s right, the table sucks), instead he’s gonna blow it up and now everyone has to work under a new system. A system that might to fairer or create new oppressors #TheExpanse
Also a lot of the beef with Marco is also personal. Cause of Naomi and Ashford the beef is personal, that makes it easier to hate him. He needs to die and swiftly as possible tbh. On sight him ! #TheExpanse
I say all this to say, season 4 shows how you get a Marco and his rise to power. It show that more will side with him than not, belters won’t be as conflicted as I think people expect. Only our main people who have personal beef with him really #TheExpanse
I really like how the whole thing as been laid out. The process to mass destruction doesn’t feel crazy random. It’s very systematic how we ended up here #TheExpanse
