A 19 year old girl was brutally gang raped & murdered in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Justice will only be served when the following questions are answered by the UP govt-
1) Who made the call from Lucknow to the @dm_hathras to forcibly cremate the girl against the family’s wishes?
2) Who ran the slander campaign against the victim and her family by floating the bogus honour killing theory? On whose instructions did the usual suspects in the media- Zee, Aaj Tak & Republic incite hate against the victim’s family?
3) On whose instructions did the top UP cop of Uttar Pradesh, ADG (Law and Order) obstruct investigation by organising a press conference to claim there was no rape despite evidence to the contrary? Why did he threaten action against those reporting on Hathras?
4) Who in the government came up with the ludicrous ‘international plot’ farce, claim there was Rs 100 crore funding by PFI etc to defame the UP government by claiming there was rape and murder?
On whose instructions in Lucknow did the disgraceful officer @ShishirGoUP threaten journalists reporting the crime? Why did Shishir Singh not want the brutal rape of a Dalit girl to be reported? Who was he protecting and why?
Who from Lucknow told the police to allow a massive mob of largely the upper caste Thakurs to gather in the village in support of the accused despite section 144 that was imposed? Who was trying to threaten the family through this show of strength?
It is not enough that CBI has filed a charge sheet in the Hathras case. For justice to be truly done, officials guilty of cover up should be strictly punished. The victim was violated not just by the boys but by the system that made pursuit of justice a nightmare for her family.

After listening to the distraught wife and daughter of the architect who committed suicide, I have a couple of questions. Did the Mumbai Police investigate it in 2018 when it was first reported? On what basis was the case closed @Dev_Fadnavis ji given the suicide note and email?
Does freedom of press include the freedom to ostensibly commit a crime- in this case abetment to suicide- as has been alleged by the family of the deceased? Remember, the allegation and FIR were filed in 2018. Way before Parambir and Arnab decided they disliked one another.
All citizens have to be treated fairly. That includes Arnab as well as the late Anvay Naik. Mr Naik’s daughter alleges she was stalked & intimidated because they refused to take back the complaint. These are serious allegations. Can there be a fair inquiry into the whole matter?
Dear @PrakashJavdekar ji. I am deeply moved again by your commitment to a free press. Just bringing some cases again to your attention for you to strongly raise with your govts. Am sure you would agree a free press is needed in all states and not just Maharashtra...
Arnab’s arrest is wrong only because it seems to stem from a place of vendetta instead of an extensive police investigation into the suicide case. But vendetta is something Arnab should be familiar with. He has unleashed it on several ordinary citizens for a while now...
Arnab wanted the arrest of Rhea Chakravarty and ran a campaign demanding it based on no evidence. Just whim or politics or hate- take your pick. He has demanded protestors be arrested, called media critical of the govt as being funded by anti national forces...
Arnab has endangered the lives of students , activists, minorities and even journalists by launching a vindictive diatribe against them sitting in his studio. He is no journalist. He is a citizen of this country with extraordinary rights. He is a VVIP.
Earlier today I was part of an event on making online space safer for women. I spoke to women friends & asked them their views. And then it occurred to me that all suggestions were on what women can do. None on how we can get people to ensure they don’t make women feel insecure.
I mean what is being asked for online is simply what one expects in the physical space. In real life do you verbally assault women? Do you make sexual remarks? Do you make sexual threats? Why should the online space be different from the offline space?
Why should social media sites like Twitter and cops look the other? In India people think safety & privacy are glamorous topics unlike, let’s say, basic food and water seen as core issues. But are they really that different or lesser important?
Dear @PrakashJavdekar ji. Moved by your passionate defence of a free press let me bring to your attention instances when media freedom was trampled. And continues to be throttled. Perhaps you were too busy to notice so here is a thread. Am sure you will tweet on this too...
A CBI inquiry has been ordered in the #HathrasCase. For it to be a truly fair inquiry the following officers have to be questioned by the CBI. 1) DM Praveen Kumar. Not only should he be charged for threatening the family but also his role in destruction of evidence..
Did Praveen Kumar give orders for the hurried cremation? Doesn’t burning the victim’s body amount to destroying evidence? The threats given to the family was meant to influence the probe and get them to toe the govt line. Why was he trying to protect the rapists?
The second officer who needs to be questioned is DGP HC Awasthy. Like @brajeshlive says his phones need to be seized to see whether he had given instructions to the SP to burn the body hurriedly. Did he instruct ADG (L&O) to do a press conference to declare there was no rape?
