This is...so bad. The bizarre jump cuts that zoom in & out on his face, the emphasis on looting more than police brutality, the “bad apples” argument, that he starts by saying he agrees with the recommendations but backtracks at the end to say “some more than others”...
No way @NYCMayor’s “reflection” video was scripted, All the jump cuts indicate he just rambled & had his staff attempt to edit it into a statement. The result: A pointless video attributing NYPD brutality to a few “individuals” & “choices that weren’t good choices, it turns out.”
.@NYCMayor lied about and defended NYPD driving cars into protestors — which we all saw on video — and now would like to say the problem was a looting, a few bad apples, and some strategic choices that “weren’t good choices, it turns out.”
“Some strategic choices...weren’t good choices, it turns out.” -BDB
Which choices, exactly? Kettling protestors over and over? Arresting legal observers? Brutalizing queer and trans protestors outside of Stonewall? Never wearing masks? @NYCMayor pretending none of that happened?
Remember when NYPD kidnapped a young protestor, dragged her into an unmarked car & sped off? Remember when they swarmed the block of a young Black organizer & tried to arrest him in his home w/o a warrant? Remember how they repeatedly denied medical attn to folks they brutalized?

I’ve spent the past 18+ months tracking GOP ties to white nationalists. We all saw the pic of @KLoeffler with neo-Nazi #ChesterDoles. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in Georgia alone.
Thread ⬇️
American Patriots USA is a white supremacist group founded & led by neo-Nazi #ChesterDoles. To date, #APUSA members have been photographed with at least three U.S. Senators, two members of U.S. Congress — one outgoing and one incoming — and two Georgia State Representatives.
Here’s the now-infamous photo of #APUSA leader #ChesterDoles, a neo-Nazi and former KKK leader, with @KLoeffler, taken on Dec 11, 2020:
.@RepMattGaetz tried to defend himself from the accusation of antisemitism by saying he's "attacking China," not Jews.
Maybe now is a good time to read about similarities between anti-Jewish & anti-Asian conspiracies, and how the @GOP is currently using them to deflect blame.
Anyway here is a good piece from @aaww about "yellow peril" and the centuries-long history of scapegoating of Asian-Americans. People who have studied antisemitism will find some very familiar patterns and imagery here... aaww.org/yellow-peril-s…
