This year, we beat Trump. On November 9, 2022, we fight to beat *Trumpism.* And ground zero will be the battle for the office that served, in the last decade, as the proxy: Wisconsin’s governorship.

The Trump era began in 2010 in Wisconsin with Scott Walker’s election. The lawlessness. The reckless disregard for democracy. The all-base-all-the-time provocation, relentless and intentional division, the sheer destruction.

The GOP here wants to bring it all back.
In a sense, the Trump era began to end right here in 2018—when Tony Evers beat Scott Walker, and began the hard work of restoring the soul of Wisconsin. Tony Evers is a fundamentally decent and kind human being. That, plus a massive voter uprising, won the day. Kinda like 2020.
In office, Tony Evers has demonstrated just how much better things can be when a governor cares about people.

An educator, he’s invested in kids. A cancer survivor, he’s championed health care and science. A native of Plymouth, WI (pop. 8,731), he’s funding rural broadband.
As Tony Evers often says, “What’s best for our kids is what’s best for our state.”

He ran on, advocated for, and signed into law historic investments in public education, health care, and transportation—while cutting taxes for middle class families.
He stood strong for protections for people with preexisting conditions by pulling Wisconsin out of the GOP lawsuit to kill the Affordable Care Act.
Governor Evers ended Scott Walker’s freeze on pardons, acting on his belief in empathy and redemption, and granted pardons to 107 people (so far) who have earned forgiveness and another chance.

When the COVID pandemic hit, Governor Evers acted swiftly, decisively, and in line with public health science—saving lives in the spring of 2020, and continuing to lead on testing, PPE, and now vaccines.
But the GOP here has never given up on the Trumpian model of power-obsessed anti-governing extremism.

They mounted a power grab after Evers was elected in 2018.

They’ve torpedoed Evers whenever they could.
Republicans want to take back the governorship here—and use the power of that office to turn Wisconsin red again in 2024.

We can’t let them do it. We have to organize year-round to prevent dark history from repeating.
Here’s the thing - @Tony4WI wakes up every morning with one mission: do what’s right for Wisconsin.

In a year of chaos, he brought steady leadership. On the political side, he led on saving the veto.

Now, let’s fight by his side.

BREAKING: The Wisconsin Supreme Court just ruled against Trump's attempt to steal the election w/ a 4-3 margin.

We might not have won this case if we hadn’t defeated the Trump-backed Supreme Court judge in April.

Help us continue to organize year-round: wisdems.org/2021
Thank you to Justices Jill Karofsky, Rebecca Dallet, Ann Walsh Bradley, and Brian Hagedorn for doing the right thing by your oaths to defend our Constitution!

THREAD: 2020 showed how the long-term survival of American democracy depends on Wisconsin.

The next two years—crucial, history-shaping Gov & Senate races, redistricting, more—require a party fighting year-round. Be a part of it. Become a monthly donor: wisdems.org/2021
We beat Trump here by 20,682 votes. The 4th time, out of the last 6 races, where the presidential margin has been under 1%. (No other state’s done this more than twice.) We won by starting early, building relationships, working flat out, year-round. We can’t lose that lesson.
Now, we’re in deep debrief mode, listening to local candidates & county parties, drawing lessons from the data and our staff & volunteers who’ve been on the front lines.

One thing that’s crystal clear: now is not the time to demobilize. This fight will only ramp up.

NEWS: Trump campaign says it's filing to recount Milwaukee & Dane Counties. But as Trump said in 2016, “The people have spoken and the election is over.” Wisconsinites chose Biden. The history of recounts suggests the win is insurmountable. Trump is kicking up dust. We’re ready.
Staffing recounts costs money. The highest-impact way to support our work is to sign up as a monthly donor—even a few bucks a month—to help ensure that we’re in a strong position for the fights to come, no matter what happens: wisdems.org/recount
Just in case Trump wanted to waste the nation’s time so he can keep grifting, our organizers have been working with county parties and neighborhood action teams to recruit and train volunteers all over the state.

THREAD: The Biden win over Trump in Wisconsin is the result of thousands of heroes, working in the trenches for years.

To everyone who made this possible—THANK YOU. Here's one story of the path to this victory, and some of the people & groups involved. Everything mattered.
First, and foremost, we would not have won Wisconsin with the tireless efforts of Governor Tony Evers (@Tony4WI ).

The @WisDems collaboration with him allowed us to scale our state party in an unprecedented fashion. And boy did we need to scale. Here's why:
Wisconsin is the home of the nailbiter. Here’s a slide I’ve been using in presentations for the last year. Adding in 2020, four of the last six presidential races here have had under 1% margins.

Ignore polls: You have to run like you’re two points behind.

BREAKING: Supreme Court upholds Republican-appointed judges’ decision siding with Trump’s GOP on Wisconsin voting rights. Absentee ballots *must* arrive by 8pm on Election Day. We’re dialing up a huge voter education campaign—chip in to support: wisdems.org/SCOTUS
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: You can still request an absentee ballot in Wisconsin. When it arrives, fill it out, get a witness signature & address on the envelope, and *hand-deliver it* by 8pm 11/3. Find your local clerk or drop box location at iwillvote.com/wi
You can also early vote in person, or vote on Election Day, and you can same-day register in Wisconsin. The rules haven't changed. But the Supreme Court failed an opportunity to expand democracy. Seize your power & hit back: VOTE VOTE VOTE!
