Hmm why would Majority Leader McConnell be pushing this nomination for Dept of Transportation IG today? Perhaps it has something to do with the allegation of wrongdoing that office is reportedly handling against his wife, the Sec of Transportation?
Oh I should have also mentioned that the alleged wrongdoing involves the Sec of Transportation trying to help her husband McConnell, yes the same person who is trying to push through the confirmation today.

The firing of @StateOIG Linick was likely motivated by his review of alleged misconduct by US Amb to the UK "Woody" Johnson sources tell @POGOBlog. The IG sent the review of Johnson to the embassy in late April, just two weeks before Linick's firing.
The report from @POGOBlog sheds new light onto Linick's abrupt firing, the investigation into alleged racist and sexist comments made by Johnson (a longtime @realDonaldTrump pal) and the abrupt departure of the acting inspector general.
The review has been waiting for weeks for approval from acting Inspector General Stephen Akard, who unexpectedly announced this week that he is leaving his post as of today.

2/During House negotiations for rules for the impeachment proceedings, the Majority decided to provide the Minority the right to subpoena witnesses. This is not a set process, but a negotiated one.
3/After deliberation on the floor, two articles of impeachment were passed by the House and sent to the Senate for a trial. Clinton was not able to confront his accuser Linda Tripp. In the Senate, a trial was held with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Rehnquist presiding.
