After denying meaningful relief for months, Republicans are now attempting to cut off one of the only sources of funding that can help mom & pop stores keep the lights on and prevent teachers, firefighters, and other public workers from getting laid off.
Instead, it will be hard-working and struggling Americans who are most affected. And we know that communities of color are hit the hardest when our economy tanks. Black and brown Americans will feel the brunt of the impact if the Fed can’t step in to help our struggling economy.
I have plenty of concerns with the way Secretary Mnuchin has utterly botched the authority Congress gave @USTreasury to help states and small businesses. But the last thing we should do is hamstring a new, competent administration from providing relief before they’re sworn in.
It’s time for Republicans to stop playing political games to sabotage President Biden and drop their outrageous demand that this reckless provision be included in the COVID relief package. The future of our economy and millions of livelihoods are at stake.
