Last day @CISAgov & I wanted to reflect. Over the last 3 years we worked with the election community and federal partners to build an unprecedented whole-of- nation effort to ensure that the 2020 election was secure & resilient. The success of this work is in the numbers:
1/
1) CISA works with all fifty states and thousands of local election offices across the country including the deployment of intrusion detection sensors across all states election infrastructure.
2/
2) @CISecurity EI-ISAC has grown to nearly three thousand members with the information provided by the ISAC reaching even further with states pushing the info to its counties and townships. 3/
3) CISA conducted penetration tests, cyber hygiene scans, open ended vulnerability assessments, table top exercises, physical security reviews and incident response on systems across almost every state & within the private sector companies that support election officials. 4/
4) Hundreds of alerts and warnings were sent to the election community over the last 3 years. The best example of this increased information sharing came with the information CISA and federal partners were able to share regarding Iranian activity prior to the election 5/
5) We have seen improvements across the sector. More MFA, better stronger passwords, improved network security, incident response planning. But their is still much more to do. These last 3 years were just a beginning. 6/
Facing foreign cyber threats & a pandemic the election community rose to the occasion & administered a successful 2020 election. This is a credit to the incredible resilience & professionalism of election officials. They deserve our praise & support not threats & intimidation. 7/
.@CISAgov was a critical partner in that work and I am immensely proud of the team at CISA and what we were able to accomplish over the last three years. The CISA team are dedicated public servants who gave everything they have to support the election community. 8/
Huge thank you to our federal partners as well @FBI@NSACyber@ODNIgov@EACgov who prioritized this mission & the election community to ensure officials had what they needed to secure this election. 9/
I leave w/ absolute confidence the @CISAgov team will build on the success we had. They are the reason for the incredible progress we made, have the trust of the election community & will do everything they can to ensure the next election is even more secure & resilient 10/
Our democratic process is at the very core of who we are as a country so there is no more important mission for @CISAgov. I know the team will continue to carry out the mission with the same urgency, integrity & non-partisan approach that allowed us to be successful. 11/
We all took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and I leave today knowing I did everything I could to uphold that oath. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the election community & America along with the team at @CISAgov. 12/
Honored to serve. We did it right. Defend Today, Secure Tomrorow. #Protect2020 13/
