I would love a $1200 stimulus check. I will appreciate the $600 stimulus check which means I can take my cat for her annual check-up. I had saved up the money but then had to buy a new Rx. She's only 2, so probably ok.

But there's a problem
So much of the talk about the stimulus check has contrasted it with what seems to be more generous benefits from other countries, but they are comparing it to unemployment insurance.
But unemployment to unemployment, the original $600 per week was more generous than Canada's $2000/month which is only $1400 US.

Now unemployment will be $300/week, much less.
But here's the real kicker. To get that $600 one-time payment for everybody - including people like me who get Social Security and have not lost income - Democrats agreed to cut unemployment extension from 16 to 10 weeks.
This includes the PUA extension for self-employed and gig workers.

Now, 6 time 300 is $1800 that was taken from those who are not working to benefit those working, on Social Security, etc. as well as the unemployed.
Was that a good deal?

Maybe, but only if we win in Georgia and can fix this after the special election.

I don't believe in the "lift all boats" theory of achieving justice. It's why the current "progressive" agenda leaves me cold.
Last month I did a thread looking at how we could bring an anti-racist agenda to health care reform.

In a great tangent off that thread @TheButterNutty made suggestions for an anti-racist agenda in education reform, most particularly in regards to IDEA and other special education issues.

I am so sick and tired of Bernie's pandering to white racists who are lost to the Democratic party not because the Democrats do not address their economic interests but because the GOP appeals to their racism.
Obama and Biden saved the auto industry and in 2016, Michigan voted for Trump. Don't tell me that Obama and Biden didn't go to the mat for those auto workers, workers who voted for the racist Trump.
And moreover, the majority of working-class and working poor voted for Biden, not for Trump. Bernie has a narrative of himself as a lonely goatherd singing a song no one else sings. But that's grandiosity and self-delusion. Democrats focus on jobs and inequality plus human rights

I don't suggest benefitting these fuckers by clicking on their video, but just so you know how fucking inane the GOP anti-democracy squad is, they are filing a suit against Zuckerberg for donating money to help finance COVID protections at election sites.
You take the grant, you buy plastic guards and PPE. Localities that didn't take the grant? That's the violation of equal protection...

These fuckers wanted people to stay home afraid to vote because of COVID. Zuckerberg, who is no hero and whose FB heavily favors conspiracists
is being attacked for financing COVID protections. Just so you know, the Gates Foundation and Bezos did, too, so I am sure they will be next. And yes, in a way the millions they donated to affect the election by allowing people to vote safely.

OK, so $600 to every citizen is not as much as is needed. But that is not all, there is an additional $1200/month added on to people's state unemployment insurance. That was $2400/month in the first COVID relief package, though the GOP refused to go that high again.
But people who compare the $600 and the $1200 to other countries... they're full of shit. Take Canada's $2000/month (that $1400 in US currency) and it's not for everyone. It's also taxable It's more like the unemployment benefit which was $600/week and is now $300/week.
The UK pays 80% of the salary of people who are laid off by coronavirus. France is paying 60% of employee's pay up to 4.5 times minimum wage. Comparing the single stimulus grant to the ongoing unemployment is fake. Compare unemployment to unemployment.

I say fuck a lot. Why? Because several years ago I got pissed off at the double standards that allow men great latitude to use profanity and obscenity without consequence while women are supposed to use minced oaths. To me, minced oaths are just the same as the real thing.
When you say "Oh, Fudge" I hear "Oh, Fuck" which is the intent. Sure, I won't say fuck in front of children because they may get in trouble with the hypocrites who think some people have more liberty to speak freely than others.
But when men can say Fuck and women say Fudge, it's infantilizing. So I saw Fuck. And I don't give a fuck if you don't like it.

And no, obscenities are not a sign of lack of intelligence. Just the opposite. Saying what you mean is far more intelligent than mincing your words

If Billy Graham were alive to see the way Franklin Graham has trashed the ministry he built, he would die of shame. Billy Graham strove to be bipartisan, to support Democratic and Republican politicians and to keep the traditional Baptist position of separation of church & state
Franklin Graham has shat on Baptist history and doctrine. The doctrines of soul liberty, of independent congregations, and the historic position of Baptists as the first religion to advocate separation of church and state have all been obliterated by Franklin Graham.
It's as though he took the Baptist church and injected it with the prosperity gospel of the charismatics and evangelicals. It has no relationship to the traditional Baptist beliefs that were Billy Graham's crusade.
