Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, OCTA Research Fellow: We are concerned that the government will not allow the highly transmissible strain to enter.
OCTA: I'm hoping the local LGUs will be very strict with regarding to travellers returning home from Christmas (trips).
OCTA: We are basically seeing a gradual increase in cases throughout the NCR especially now in the northern LGUs of Metro Manila.
OCTA: Our numbers are still low though they are growing rapidly, and we hope that this will be reversed in January.
OCTA: For now, we are just raising the concern that the third wave of COVID-19 has arrived in the Philippines and we just have to work together as a people to prevent it from overwhelming our healthcare capacity.
OCTA: Most of the cases are still in the northern parts of NCR. If you look at all the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila.
OCTA: The southern LGUs like Las Piñas and Parañaque are still not witnessing the increase in cases but our concern is people are travelling between all LGUs in Metro Manila, that the rise in cases in Quezon City, Malabon, Caloocan (1/2)
OCTA: ...and all of those areas will slowly spread to the rest of the areas and surrounding regions including Calabarzon. (2/2)
OCTA: Since most of the cases that are increasing, dito sa Metro Manila, our primary concern is for those living in Metro Manila and taking the virus with them to the provinces.
OCTA: You have heard there is a new strain of the virus identified in England so we are particularly concerned as well that the government not allow that highly transmissible strain to enter the Philippines.
OCTA: There is the international border where we have to be careful and very strict with our quarantine facilities and our isolation facilities to prevent balikbayans from the UK from bringing this new highly transmissible strain to the Philippines.
