Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: AB is providing a one-time exemption to the gathering limit – only if you live alone. From Dec. 23-28, they can visit another household once. Please continue to take all precautions. (1/8)
AHS will have close to 1,600 contact tracers by the end of the year. COVID-19 obviously doesn’t take a break, and I’m extremely grateful to all of our healthcare workers who are spending the season caring for patients and responding to the pandemic. (2/8)
If there are ways to care for mental & physical well-being by not entering continuing care facilities, please do so. This is a difficult time for those living/working in these facilities & I hope all ABs will show them support. A letter, card, or call will go a long way. (3/8)
Looking after our own and each other’s mental health is just as important as wearing a mask, washing our hands & staying home when sick. If you are struggling, remember that you are not alone. Confidential, non-judgemental support is available – even through the holidays. (4/8)
Alberta’s Mental Health Helpline is avail 24-7 & offers confidential support for mental health concerns. Alberta’s Addiction Helpline, Kids Help Phone and Alberta Youth Mental Health Hub online are also available. Visit ahs.ca/helpintoughtim… for details. (5/8)
Mental health services are not restricted under our current public health orders & can continue to operate w/ appropriate safety protocols in place. We all need help sometimes. If you need support for your mental or physical health, please do not delay seeking assistance. (6/8)
Every single Albertan has been impacted by this virus and is doing their best to get through. This has been an extraordinary year. So, for the rest of 2020, let’s all approach each other with extraordinary kindness. (7/8)
We will be providing regular COVID-19 updates on a modified schedule during the holidays. More details on this will be shared tomorrow. (8/8)

There are 795 people in hospital, including 151 in ICU. Sadly, 9 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hrs. My thoughts are with all those mourning a family member or friend right now, whether it is from COVID-19 or any other cause. (2/11)
This weekend, the federal government restricted incoming flights from the UK for 72 hrs in response to a genetic variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 circulating in the UK that appears to be more easily transmitted person-to-person. (3/11)
While this is not fully confirmed, there is sufficient evidence to prompt action. At this time, the variant does not appear to cause more severe symptoms or impact how the body responds to the virus, lab testing performance, or the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines. (4/11)
