No one has ever said "logic doesn't matter" in defense of a movie that was actually good. It's what people say when they refuse to admit they either have bad taste or are just blind fanboys who will swallow whatever slop their favorite brand puts in front of them.

There is absolutely no reason a movie can't be both emotionally and intellectually satisfying at the same time, nor is there any reason you shouldn't expect a movie to do both. No movie has ever had its emotional impact lessened by being logically consistent.

Are there boring but logical movies? Yes. Are they boring because they're logical? No.

And making a movie nonsensical doesn't keep it from being boring. I've seen plenty of movies that are boring precisely because they don't make sense. It's impossible to care about anything when you don't know what you're supposed to care about because the rules keep changing.

If you establish early on that it's possible to bring the dead back to life with magic, but then you have a character die and everyone acts all sad over it, I'm not going to be sad. I'm just going to be wondering why they don't use the resurrection spell.

"Emotional resonance" is subjective, but internal logic can be judged objectively. So if a viewer is bothered by logical inconsistencies, it will detract from their enjoyment. But no one has ever complained about a movie being too logical. A movie can ONLY benefit from logic.

And understand, logical consistency is not the same thing as realism. You can make a movie about space wizards and it obviously wouldn't be realistic, but it can still be consistent with its own internal logic by establishing the rules of the story world and sticking to them.

Honestly, I don't think expecting a plot to make sense is a high bar. Writing events that follow a logical causal chain is probably the easiest part of story writing, so I don't understand how so many people excuse it. It's like trying to cook but failing to turn the stove on.
