1/ A Trump fundraising triple bait-and-switch, unpacked.
This morning, Trump’s campaign sent this text message. It would appear, in a plain reading of it, that any money you donate would go toward ongoing efforts to overturn Election 2020 results.
2/ But click on the Trump fundraising text link, & you get nothing about the presidential election. Instead, you get a solicitation for the “GEORGIA ELECTION FUND,” referring, of course, to the two runoffs in Georgia that will determine the Senate’s balance of power in 2021-2022.
3/ OK, so you’re helping elect Republican senators in Georgia and preserving a Senate majority, not helping Trump fight. Tomato, tomahto.
One problem: Your donation isn’t going to the Georgia runoff.
It’s mostly going to a new Trump political committee called “Save America.”
4/ So what’s “Save America”? It’s Trump’s new “leadership PAC” that he can use for all sorts of activity — and w/ few restrictions — after he leaves the White House. In essence, it’s a slushy fundraising committee for when he surrenders and gives up the presidency on Jan. 20.
5/ Moral of the story: always read the fine print.
1/ DEEEEP DIVE: How QAnon infiltrated the @GOP, leaving many Republicans leaders with a brutal choice:

1/ "Abandoned in America" published 2 years ago this week. Been thinking about the people my colleagues and I met, all of whom shared endless frustration w/ a government they felt didn't care about them. All before COVID-19, all before the economy crashed. apps.publicintegrity.org/abandoned-in-a…
2/ In all, @publicintegrity's "Abandoned in America" spanned six stories, dozens of photos/videos and more than 27,000 words. It began with this soaring narrative from @suhaunah, writing from the border of Presidio, Texas, and Ojinaga, Mexico. apps.publicintegrity.org/abandoned-in-a…

2/ For months, @sarahkleiner9 contacted dozens of people, read thousands of documents and drove up and down the Eastern seaboard to piece this puzzle together. Few reporters I've worked with have ever worked so hard. Let Sarah herself tell you more:
3/ This piece, about a scam veterans charity that used the telemarketing firm in question, was part of @sarahkleiner9's investigation. It illustrates the human effects of huge amounts of money being siphoned away from needy veterans. publicintegrity.org/politics/veter…
