In April 1993, George Soros secretly & illegally funneled $1 million to Boris Yeltsin's team—via Switzerland—to help Yeltsin win a key referendum. Thanks to Soros, Yeltsin won the referendum & used that to justify his coup 6 months later.

It's hard to talk honestly about Soros's destructive legacy in the former East Bloc, ever since Nazis & reactionary anti-Semites made Soros a metonymy for every noxious anti-Semitic caricature. But Soros himself later testified he regretted his role despoiling Russia.
