At the #COVID19Lagos press briefing today, I explained the Changing profile of #COVID19 Disease & the #COVID192ndWave in Lagos.

Towards the end of 1st wave we experienced;
📍Changing pattern in Positivity rate
📍Isolation centre almost empty
📍Death rate dropped dramatically
At this point it was important to balance public health response and allowing the economy to reopen.

📍Schools were reopened
📍Religious hoses opened
📍Social gathering and entertainment resumed.

There was general laxity with the false sense that #COVID19 infection is down.
However by the begining of December, 2020 with the reopening of the economy and increase in testing capacity of between 1,500 to 3,000 we started witnessing increase in positivity.
One of the strategies adopted in response to the recent increase in #COVID19 infection is the provision of #COVID19 Permanent Sample Collection Triage and Oxygen Therapy Centre in 10 LGAs across Lagos to support patients with oxygen before they are transferred to care centres.
Meanwhile, Lagos residents will need to make lifestyle adjustments to live with #COVID19 by adhering to all non pharmaceutical interventions .

@followlasg will continue to deploy effective messaging and education and enforce all #COVID19 safety protocols.
On the new #COVID19 strain.

A virus has ability to mutate but we are not sure whether the new strain is deadlier.

Infectivity is given R value, the higher the R the more people the virus can infect.

At times mutation can increase R value.

Our response must aim for R zero.

Sanwo-Olu undergoes COVID-19 treatment

Following Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s exposure to a confirmed case of #COVID19, a PCR test performed yesterday the 11th of December has confirmed that he has indeed been infected with the virus which is supported by mild
symptoms and fatigue typical of a mild case of #COVID19 Mr Governor is receiving treatment and is being closely monitored at home by the very experienced State #COVID19 clinical team from IDH Yaba.

Mr Sanwo-Olu is doing well on treatment and rest and we are confident that
he will recover quickly and clear the virus. We are seeing slightly increasing number of #COVID19 positive cases in clusters in Lagos and all residents and visitors should strictly adhere to the prescribed advisories of safe distancing, mask wearing, good hand and respiratory

My presentation at the @LagHealthScheme UHC Day Celebration.

Over the last 2 decades @followlasg had experimented with many policy initiatives such as: The Free Health Scheme; the community based health insurance scheme (CBHIS) aimed at attaining #UHC #ForAGreaterLagos
The journey towards #UHC has not been without hitches. This necessitated the establishment of an all inclusive mandatory health scheme to bridge the gap

The objective of the scheme is to reduce out of pocket spend, thereby protecting the population against the financial risks
Challenge - fragmentation and low coverage;

•2% of the population of Lagos has health insurance, including fragmented NHIS programs and private health insurance.

In my address @lagoshsc forum 2020, I specially congratulated the Permanent Secretary of @lagoshsc Dr. Ademuyiwa B. Eniayewun for his courage to address the issue of bureaucracy in Lagos State health system.

@jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @JokeSanwoolu @followlasg @lshaofficial
In eliminating excessive bureaucratic processes @LSMOH is using digital platforms which makes operations easier and faster as seen in other parts of the world.

This is done by putting in place the Lagos #SHIP - a smart health information platform for Lagos State health sector.
However, there are other issues in our health system that needs be addressed to reduce bureaucracy ; they are, infrastructure, man power deficiency, and budget efficiency.

There’s the need to take budget efficiency a step further by not just looking at the amount drawn out but

With utmost sense of responsibility, I am obliged to make it known to the general public that I have tested positive to #COVID19.

Consequently, I have proceeded on a 14 days self- isolation and treatment at home.
Nevertheless, I remain committed to continue to discharge my duties as the Commissioner for Health and Deputy Incident Commander for #COVID19 responses in Lagos State.

I am extremely enthusiastic and hopeful of overcoming this phase of our collective fight against #COVID19.
I have the full support of the Incident Commander and Governor of Lagos State @jidesanwoolu, the entire Cabinet of the Government of Lagos State as well as my team @LSMOH to put this behind as soon as possible.
