Police are increasingly turning to cars' infotainment systems to destroy suspects' alibis

nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
In one case, a man became a murder suspect after police retrieved recordings of his voice from the victim's truck

(he used the hands-free system to change radio station) nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
Cars can store not only location data, but when doors were opened and closed + call history & text messages from any phones connected via Bluetooth or USB.

It can often be easier for police to get calls/texts off a car than cracking the smartphone

Even if you don't plan to commit a murder, I would urge you to check out your own car's privacy policy...

Mine collects an awful lot including - and I'm not really sure how - "olfactory" information.

If you plug your phone into a rental car, don't forget to wipe the data afterwards -- unless you want others seeing your "hookers and blow requests" nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
The same car data that can be helpful for solving crimes can also be used to commit them -- eg cyberstalking and identity theft nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
